Hey Everyone! I've been along time lurker here, but have decided to come out of my lurking shell to get some clarification, maybe advice, but most importantly and hopefully...some reassurance. Sure I could have gone and posted on another board, but based on what I've read, seems like the experts tend to stick around this one. :)
After lots of persistance and attempts applying with other companies and jobs since my time making magic happen at DLR, I have finally scored myself an interview for next week at the casting center as a potential rehire! It's been close to three years since then and I am somewhat out of the loop as casting runs now(ie->the electronic applications, not knowing if I'm being hired or not the same day I fill out an application).
I had left on good terms with two weeks notice when I left. My excuse for leaving was to focus on my then up and coming first semester of college. However, I had racked up some points and if I missed a day or two more, I probably would have been terminated. This worries me because when I did fill out my application two months ago, the casting CM had told me it could get in the way, but I did have a non-restricted rehire.
And another thing I was worried about is my availability. I know it's ideal to have Saturday, Sundays and Friday evenings fully available(something that's reflected onto my application...and then some nights during the week) if I want to be considered for a CR/part-time position. But since my application was filled out two months ago, my class schedule has changed. I still have Saturdays and Sundays open, but instead of M,T,W and Friday evenings, it is now T, Th, and Friday mornings to slightly after the mid afternoon. Could this be a deal breaker?
I know, with all the stressing, it seems like I don't seem confident enough to rehire. But I just want to get an idea of what my chances are since scoring this interview in this job market was a rare blessing. Thanks ahead of time for any help. :)
Oh, and my top three preferences were: attractions, QSRs, and then ODV. I was a former QSR Host CM. Can anyone give me an idea of what the staffing needs are in those departments? Again, thanks for anything and everything that put me at ease...

Re: Nervous Rehire Attempt
Hi, Jeff, and :sgthello:
To answer your question, one thing I would consider is instead of being PT go Seasonal. That way you have more control of your schedule... Someone from DL would be able to answer the rest of that better than I could, though I could tell you plenty well about WDW.
That non-restricted rehire status is definitely the most important part.
And as far as your schedule goes, they *should* understand that in two months life circumstances can change, unless you are enslaved... err, FT.
Hopefully, we will be saying welcome back to the family very soon. Keep us updated.
In the meantime, someone should be around to offer you a drink and a safety spiel. If the drink is alcoholic, I suggest doing the safety spiel first, as that will make things much less painful for you.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Haha, thanks for the warm welcomes. I've been around, just not posting...but I do have a handful of stories I should share sometime. ;)
Thanks for the support Big Wallby, it's helpful. I am looking forward to the possibility of being part of the family again...I still have somewhat of an emotional connection with the company. Seasonal does seem like an option, I actually went seasonal towards the end of my run with Dland...but would prefer the hours, seniority and overall experience of part time. Hopefully my rehire status, and the good overall good standing I had with my managers minus the attendance can help me out.
And for that drink, nothing's too hot when you've burned your hands a few times with pans in QSRs. Definitely looking forward to the twists and turns too!

Re: Nervous Rehire Attempt
The problem with CT is that DLR is much more strict with it's availability requirements than WDW is. California-Site CTs basically have to be fully available during the predefined peak periods and aren't allowed to work outside of that.
I will say that, barring any drastic change in the last two years (Wow, has it been really nearly two years since I transferred?? :eek :) , DLR CRs are only required to provide availability after 18:00 on Fridays. So if you have courses in the morning, that shouldn't be an issue.

That's what is bugging me a little bit, my classes are actually after 18:00(wow, havent had to say that in a while ;) ) on Fridays. So I'm free for the better part of that day. Will that make up for it?glendalais wrote:The problem with CT is that DLR is much more strict with it's availability requirements than WDW is. Re: Nervous Rehire Attempt
As I recall, as long as you are able to work Friday, this should work. CT hrs. have been cut so far back I'm told, don't expect more than 8 or 12 per wk, yet this is breakroom chatter. Am FT so don't pay much attention to CT hrs. You gave a 2 wk notice - this was most important to rehire. I would guess you will be fine. Good luck! See you soon @ DL.aznjeff11 wrote:my classes are actually after 18:00(wow, havent had to say that in a while ;) ) on Fridays. So I'm free for the better part of that day. Will that make up for it?

Re: Nervous Rehire Attempt
Well, just wanted to put up an update. I had my interview today! Did the usual housekeeping of going over my application and watching the same video about the CM culture and Disney look.
When it came to the actual interview it went by wicked fast. It was literally questions coming rapid fire, and the whole interview was 10-15 minutes. Most of my questions were in regards to my previous employment with the resort regarding examples of guest service, including happy and upset guests. She asked me what she would probably see if she were to open up my record...I was honest but explained the situation then and said what's up now. There were other questions asked about working indoors or out, and with a team or as an individual.
So that leaves me with the conclusion of the interview, which is still really yet to be continued. I was told that I would be contacted within in a week after they look into my record to see if I fit with any roles, which I'm guessing includes ones I didn't apply for. I guess the waiting game has only begun...
