SG Wins Darwin Award on SR 528

Post by glendalais » Mon Jan 17, 2011 12:48 am

Orlando Sentinel: Man hit by car while trying to cross BeachLine, dies at hospital

Had quite the surprise on my way in to work today.

It's unfortunate for all involved, and I can't help but think that the victim had no idea where he was. However, one has to wonder just why someone would be walking in the middle of a major highway, particularly one where the speed limit is almost uniformly ignored (I was driving the speed limit of 55 mph once and was overtaken by not one, but two police cruisers), and also where at least half the drivers are tourists without the slightest clue of where they're going. I would hope that base human self-preservation instincts would kick in long before it got anywhere near that point.

Being that he was 85, I would not classify this so much as a SG, as a confused old man who, for whatever reason probably had a moment in which he lost his faculties, and died as a result. Very sad.

I had picked up my car and was headed toward the Resort area, just passing 528 when this happened.

I can't imagine what the driver is going through right now. Sure he's not sleeping.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!

Unfortunately this only garners a nomination for the Award. To actually win the Award takes a lot of effort, this required minimal effort (or thought).
