Strangest thing I have seen. Very sad. Beach got too crowded tonight I suppose and out of nowhere they started telling everyone cast, not cast, guests from other resorts, people who had eaten dinner (my family and i like to have dinner and watch from the beach like many others) I always see that the towels and chairs are clearly guest use only. But really didnt expect that.

(Nor did I expect the way the whole thing was executed, lots of tension and very angry people. And I heard cast members contridicting one another, heard people lying to guests, many members of management I spoke to as people were leaving honestly had no idea what was going on.)


Did NOT expect any of what happened tonight at the resort.

I know that it sucks for people wanting to watch the fireworks after dinner at Ohana or Kona, but I have to say it is about time that WDW does something about the crowds there. We typically stay at the Poly and spend alot of money to do so, and it is very frustrating when we as hotel guests paying for those ammenities cannot enjoy them due to crowds of people trying to see the "free fireworks viewing" that is touted on many other boards as one of the best Disney freebies around.

The Poly has tons of pool crashers and beach sitters and it is frustrating watching families climb off the monorail at the GCH carrying tote bags, coolers etc and walking down to the pool and camping out for the day at tons of tables and chairs, when we as hotel guests cannot find one chair to sit on and share in order to eat a snack or drink a cocktail.

that is surprising, last time we were there I noticed that one of the evenings we were at the hotel duing the fireworks, that the beach was crowded and that some had even taken the chairs from the patios facing the lagoon. (we had a balcony facing the lagoon)

I mentioned it to a Cm there, and she said it happened all the time, and they (the Cm's of course) had to put them back becasue the 'guests" did not put them back where they got them.

And how hard would it be to have someone there pointing out to the campers that they must be Poly Guests to use the facilities? I recall years ago being "carded" to use the resort bus system. Maybe it's time to bring that back.

That, or you have proof of a dinner reservation that night.

Besides, I think it quite strange that a guest in their own car or my Town Car has to show ID, but on a bus... nothing. I am definitely a fan of at least having to show some sort of ID. Especially were they to put cameras on the buses that could see guests come aboard, and high enough definition to capture their info on said ID.

You could always go up to the lifeguards and tell them your suspicions that someone not registered at the Poly is breathing your rarefied air.

That's a little harsh, don't you think? Let's face it, when you got a resort, you are paying for the amenities of the resort. Disney certainly sees it that way. If you are not a guest there, you need to have some sort of business there to get in. Even if you have business there (such as dining), you are still not entitled to use all the amenities at that resort, the pool being a great example.

If you take the extra expense to stay at the Poly, I can absolutely see why somebody who has not paid to stay there and may not even be staying on property or have a ticket to the parks would be irritating. They are taking away the amenities that you paid for. Disney is absolutely in their rights to ask those guests to leave.

We did visit resorts that were not ours to eat or even to walk around. But had they told us no, we would have been fine with it as we were not paying for the amenities at that resort. DAKL comes to mind in particular. We went there to eat at Boma's and decided to walk the trails since we got there early. Disney would absolutely have been within their rights to ask us tos how them an ID stating this was our resort since part of the cost of that resort is the upkeep of the animals. They did not, but they could have and we would have no reason to complain.

Now, I imagine that it would be hard to enforce because currently the room keys do not state your resort. There are several numbers on them, so I suppose that those numbers could indicate your resort, I don't know.

There's a long number printed on the KTTW, starting with "99". The next two digits indicate the resort. Contemporary KTTW start "9913", Bay Lake Tower "9939", etc. Thus it's pretty easy for a CM to take a quick look at at KTTW and see if someone "belongs there".

Before you ask, no I don't have a complete list.
