Your Christmas Decorations are Safety Hazards and Must Be Removed Immediately!
CBC Montreal: Christmas decorations dangerous: Canada Post
Really?
"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds", but Christmas garland? That's a whole other story.

While it might seems frivolous, I can sort of see the reason behind this one: it isn't decorations in general, just on handrails along stairs. If I was a postal worker in an area where snow and ice can make stairs slippery, I would like to know that I could catch myself with the handrail without having to worry about grabbing a handful of slick garland, much less crushing some Christmas lights in my palm. True, this is probably not all that common an event, still it isn't like they are asking for a total ban on decorations.glendalais wrote:CBC Montreal: Christmas decorations dangerous: Canada Post

Note to Canada Post, start throwing mail on the porch. When the 'couriers' start 'crashing and burning' on peoples front porches, they might change their tune.

This is a Disney forum, so we'll consider Disney's Four Keys:
Safety is and will always be #1. When extending a professional courtesy compromises employee safety, the courtesy must be revoked. Handrails serve a very important purpose, especially in locations with slippery surfaces. There are many easy ways to adapt -- place the offending decorations elsewhere, etc. (they're asking for the removal of decorations from the railings' top, leading planes, and only those surfaces). With postal workers enduring an incredibly high number of stairs and other ambulatory features throughout their day, it becomes extremely important that the stairs conform to safety standards. Remember, this is their workplace, they deserve the opportunity to be safe.Safety

Or, in the case of my house, they'd get pricked by the spiky pine-like garland I use on my handrails (it's all that wiring that is used to make it look 'real") if they reached out for balance. However, our mail carriers drive and don't walk house to house.....I kinda miss that.PatchOBlack wrote:While it might seems frivolous, I can sort of see the reason behind this one: it isn't decorations in general, just on handrails along stairs. And that would be the motto of the U.S. Postal Service not the Canadian. Just as a side note...it isn't followed here much either.glendalais wrote:CBC Montreal: Christmas decorations dangerous: Canada Post

It's not the motto of the US Postal Service either. It's just something the architect had carved into a post office he designed in New York City.Goofyernmost wrote:And that would be the motto of the U.S. Postal Service not the Canadian. Just as a side note...it isn't followed here much either.
And no, it's not followed much. Probably shouldn't be -- sounds dangerous.

Yup, I worded that wrong. It indeed is not an official motto but it is thought to be and is quoted constantly. Just not Canadian...There motto is "look for it when ya see it comin, ah!"Zazu wrote:It's not the motto of the US Postal Service either. Not postal but Maui's motto should be, in Mexico its mañana, on Maui its next week.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.
