I observed lots of crazy behavior... and lots of great CMs. I especially enjoyed spending some time with a couple of parade CMs in front of the Dawa Bar at AK... they answered my questions, and helped ferry people where they needed to be before the parade began.
I was amazed at how often you have to answer the same question... over and over again... and to answer it with a smile and with patience!
I watched 2 or 3 CMs in the greeter position at Spaceship Earth.... it was a COLD COLD day, and one guy wanted to bring his stroller and infant through the queue. The CMs were incredibly patient, even though they had to firmly repeat that he couldn't do that. They retained their cool, even though he was getting visibly upset.
The performers in the parades and shows look like they're having so much fun. (I imagine that they ARE having a great time... if not, then they are exceptional actors!) They make eye contact with guests, and make each performance look like it's the only (or best) performance that they get to do. It would be easy to forget that they do the same parade/show multiple times a day. (Even in the crazy cold weather, they performed with great energy and enthusiasm.)
With exception to a couple of QS locations, the CMs at our restaurants were helpful and the food was quick and good.
Despite long lines in the evenings, I was impressed with Disney transportation, and their ability to keep those buses moving in to get guests where they needed to be. It was COLD on Sunday and Monday night... and so it would have been easy to believe that we'd stood there forever... and yet, the buses came quickly and loaded us up.
Anyway... I could go on.... we had good experiences with CMs all over the place....
Thanks for all you do.
Just back... wanted to say thanks!

All that cold weather was just part of the Disney magic to help you get in the Christmas mood. ;)

See, I figured the economy was so bad that someone in upper management wasn't able to pay the climate control bill... :)

Drawing on theater parallels it's probably some from column A and some from column B. A performer has to be able to leave the bullshit in the wings and put on that smile even when it's the end of the world and their dog just died.twitch wrote:The performers in the parades and shows look like they're having so much fun. I'm told that Katherine Hepburn once said, "Anyone can go out and give a great performance when they're feeling fine. A professional is someone who can go out and give a great performance when they're felling really crappy."Mayonnaise wrote:A performer has to be able to leave the bullshit in the wings and put on that smile even when it's the end of the world and their dog just died.

Well said, Zazu. One rarely can be faulted for maintaining a high level of professionalism.Zazu wrote:I'm told that Katherine Hepburn once said, "Anyone can go out and give a great performance when they're feeling fine. Re: Just back... wanted to say thanks!
We're just back from WDW (1/15 - 1/22) and wanted to say thanks as well. We had a great trip and luckily did not run into too many SG's. The only ones we encountered were completely clueless about the bus system and we did try to help them out. They didn't think we knew anything and proceeding to jump all over the poor bus driver when he got there. He told them the same things we did and then they spent the whole trip to DHS griping about the bus service and that they should go rent a car. Please do!!!
Thanks again to all CM's who make WDW a great place to vacation!!! You guys ROCK!!!
