Up until January of 2007, child and adult meals were not separated in the computer system from what I understand. So many people were exploiting that fact and paying out of pocket for their kids meals and using the kids credits to get extra meals for the adults. It is my understanding that at the counter service places, credits are still not separated but the CM's will not allow someone to order more that what is listed on the card. For instance, it might say 2A/1C, but people would order 3 adult meals and share with friends. They still discuss ways of getting around it on board x (having two people go up separately) and it's precisely those people that have made the changes to the menus and dining plan.
In addition, the snack credit is good for anything up to $4 (USUALLY)...so people will fight to get their bagel and sausage sandwich for a "snack" when in reality, it's a meal and so on. They have been allowed to get a box (yes a box) of donuts and a 2 liter bottle of soda as "snacks" at some hotels, and they expect the same treatment throughout all of the parks. One donut is no longer acceptable as a snack in the park because they can get a whole box and the hotel so why won't the CM at the bakery give them a dozen too? (I'm not kidding...people do this)
Prior to the current Dining plan, they had silver/gold/platinum "wishes" plans that were a lot like what this dining plan is, but you could also use your "wishes" for things like pictures, boat rentals, ect. That was the good old days, and I understand that did not appeal to everyone, but the dining plan as is did not appeal to us and the premium plan was more than we wanted (all of the activities).
For us, this new deluxe plan fits our needs as we like to try different restaurants as well, and we are usually going from 6am-midnight at Disney (but i'm too excited to sleep), so three sit downs will be nice for us to get a break. We won't eat every course, but we may try bites and relax.
With the new plan, we could do a sit down breakfast or lunch and a signature dinner. That isn't an exhorbant (sp) amount of food imo.
hope that clears up why i am excited.
I apologize to you and vixen if my initial post came off differently. The above cheating of the system are the clampets I am referring to.
