Allow me to express my intense hatred for whomever designed the pipe structure stage right. Had you put some thought into it, perhaps you could have found a solution that didn't involve one of the four most often used battens in the theatre potentially derailing itself. Also, thanks a lot for not being considerate enough to remove your disaster before another group had to use the building.

Techie 1# Also allow me to thank you for using rotolocks on the two points receiving the least lateral load, and also the only two points that require the longest pipe in the playhouse to be lifted straight up. Good design there.
Techie 4# The rotolocks were for space considerations. and, it's the *second* longest pipe in the building. I can't argue that lifting the pipe out would not be miserable, as dropping it in certainly wasn't.

Techie 2# it seems like this was almost/more as stupid as bolting two bars together... and then "quick releasing" ~400 lbs off of it. Thinking back, I am glad we didnt go with that plan

And really that was only because (stage manager) wouldn't let me fly (actress)

Stupid Theater Tricks...

At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.
Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

Somehow this smells like an accident was narrowly avoided!
Rotolocks on ANY scenery overhead -- Never ! They are for securing deck sections together side by side, or cleverly locking boxes - like coffins !
THey only have strength in one direction, any lateral or shear will cause them to disengage. This is handy for taking up the deck when there are not enough coffin keys to go around! But I wouldnt even use them to fasten flats together. As soon as you bend the seam or land it on an uneven surface, the lock will let go.

He misspelled "Rota-lock." For "Roto-locks" we say "Coffin locks" to avoid just that misunderstanding. It's all pipe. There's no way a coffin lock could be involved.
Still, it was a whole mess of stupid... hence the convo. That pipe structure had been up there since 2006.
