Yep, and car makers used to be concerned that putting seat belts in cars would scare the public into thinking driving could be dangerous...

The best part about the liquids restrictions is that, if you happen to bring a bottled water or soda or something to the checkpoint, they'll confiscate it and throw it in a plastic trash can right in the middle of a heavy foot-traffic area where hundreds of people are walking by!

Catch-22 here: either the TSA admits that bottled water really isn't that dangerous, or they're putting dozens of lives in danger by putting a potentially dangerous item in an unshielded trash bin. Classic security theater - makes you feel safe without actually making you more safe.

Oh yeah, total security theatre. All you really need to look at to see that is the statistics on how often things happened on planes before and after each time they got stricter. The incidents have never been common; although you may have some people argue that there are more flights all the time and so you'd expect more incidents which isn't happening.

While it may be a security theatre to you, you are not the intended audience.

I remember there was a lady who was nursing her baby and was forced to throw away a container of breast milk she had pumped. Right--like terrorists are now using nursing mothers with breast milk containing hazardous materials as a front to blow up a plane.

Personally, I think TSA has gotten too powerful. If I had to travel somewhere, I'd take the train. And if someone tried to down an enhanced patdown on me, I'd make sure to eat beans for days before--lethal weapon, you understand.

Now THAT'S a Terrorist Threat!!!!!

Seriously,I would just submit to the patdown.....Really,I pretty much feel that this is not thrilling for the TSA,either. Ask your MD or Nurse how exciting it is to touch the random People Parts

Everyone's seen the TSA Spoof that aired on SNL last week right?

MAPO, so sorry the SGs have returned enforce. But I agree with you, as an accountant, I can quickly scan the entrance area of any park and realize the couple of dollars added to my ticket each year hardly pay for the enhancements to security Disney has had to pay for.

My hubby and I go through the line check with both of our bags totally unzipped and ready to be searched.....I usually advise the person on duty about a secret compartment in the one bag I have. It takes maybe two minutes to get through. Do I feel safer? A little bit. I know they can't get all the contraband with those checks, but I also know that Disney has security everywhere and SGs will [eventually] get caught.

And I also agree, MAPO, that terrorists nowadays are not what they once were. Here in the Philly area, we recently had the arrest of "Jihad Jane"....she was your average next-door neighbor type....and blonde and blue-eyed. Go figure.....not your typical terrorist. And there are more where she came from, unfortunately. We can only hope that the security measures do halt some people in their tracks and make them think twice.

As to the scanner or groping....as much as I would detest it, I would have to ask for the pat-down....no offense, but they haven't done enough research on the radiation output of those machines yet.
