My SGT moment

Post by I am Sam » Sun Nov 21, 2010 3:13 am

Four years ago (12-27-06 to 1-2-07) I took my husband's family to the world for the first time for all of them. This meant all of the responsibility was on my shoulders, including my bipolar sister in law. She would not see a show or ride at all because she was convinced someone was going to steal her son's stroller and refused to leave it. Even after I offered to buy her a new one if it got stollen. Well by new years day I was fed up with everyone and everything. We had breakfast at CRT and that's where I snapped.
I look much younger than I am to the point that at 27 now I can appear to be as young as 12. Well that day the host had the table set up with a sword (for my nephew) and a wand (for me) plus two "wishing stars". During breakfast they have a ceremony about the wishing stars (girls are suppose to use it to do good deeds on and boys are suppose to protect with the sword) where they ask the kids to wave the wands and swords. Snow White comes up behind me and asks why I am not waving my wand. The first words out of my mouth were, "look Ms. White I am 23 freaking years old, I am responsible for everyone in my party, and I am sick of being treated like a child but expected to be an adult. There is no alcohol in this park and I feel to old for this magic crap." To her credit she was just as quick to say "your never to old to believe in magic." She was right too because she moved on to my 8 month old nephew, who was waving his sword and he beaned Snow with it when she bent down to kiss his forehead. And my sister in law caught it on camera with still shots! None of us including Snow White laughed quite as hard in a long time.
By the way these comments are not typical of me. I am the red headed lady in the wheelchair at Disney World that competes with younger siblings and/or nieces and nephews for weirdest character signatures, who can meet the most Mickeys in one trip, etc. I love it. It sort of embarrasses my husband but I "know" some of the characters since we have come at least once every year since I was 11 years old. Yep I am now a DVC member and an AP. But I promise I try to be on my best behavior. Oh and I am not entitled to anything.

At least you called her "Miss White". And that's also the reason I refuse to go to the world with other than my immediate family.

Gee...that's something I've never been clear on. I mean, Snow White (as well as several other of the Disney Princesses) got married. So, shouldn't it have been "Mrs.", and then her married name?

Come to think of it, since they are royalty, shouldn't they be addressed as "Your Highness"?

What? Me, over-thinking things? I don't think so.... :cat1:

She called her Ms. White, which is correct in either case, as it does not designate married status.

I suppose her married name would be Mrs. Charming, if she chose to change her name. As far as we know she kept her name, because she's still called Snow White.

All this discussion made me think. Other than Snow White do any of the other princesses have a last name? Or is White actually her last name or is it her middle name?

Actually, it wouldn't be Mrs. Charming, that'd be Cinderella. Her prince is Prince Charming. Snow's prince has no name, or as Zazu claims the name of Buckethead. :) Not sure if it's one word or not, so would she be Mrs. Head? Or Mrs. Buckethead?

Quite so.

It would be Mrs. Buckethead. It was a single word in the book I saw. Not to be confused by Tinker Bell, who Capt. Hook once addressed (correctly) as "Miss Bell".

Then again, we're all assuming that people had last names in those days. Not terribly so. Most folks went around wearing just their "Christian name" and some got nicknames. There were names for major families and dynasties, but universal surnames are a relatively new phenomenon, coming to some European countries as recently as the early 20th century.

Cinderella would be pissed  Prince Charming is her man. Ms. White's is just "the prince"

After giving it some thought, Snow White would properly be addressed as "Your Majesty", since she was already a princess even before she met her prince. Aurora, Ariel, and Jasmine also could be addressed this way at any time, as they are also the daughters of kings (or, in Jasmine's case, a sultan). Belle, Cinderella, and Tiana, however, married into their titles, so one would have to find out where in their stories they are before one could be certain of addressing them properly. Pocahontas was the daughter of a chief, so while she is considered a "princess", I'm not sure what the "official" term would be, if there was one. The most unique inclusion is Mulan, who is not related to royalty ether by birth or marriage. However, it is possible that the Emperor thinks of her as "family"...

Didn't the Emperor offer her a job? If she took it, she'd be Counsellor or Chancellor Mulan. Or something to that effect.

I'm not clear on the difference between Your Majesty and Your Highness. Anyone know?
