Re: Stolen from the MK?
Honestly, yes. Lots of props have vanished, though I'm not sure what proportion when out the back door rather than the front.
The one that bothered me the most was an old felt hat screwed to a peg at Main Street Station. It had about rotted off, and I managed to get it replaced. The following week somebody nicked the new one. I should have waited.
As for *why* that old hat bothered me -- it was the same style as the hat Walt can be seen wearing in several films of him playing on his backyard railroad, the Carolwood Pacific. Clearly a different hat, but still, to many of us on Main Street (and particularly the WDW RR), that was "Walt's hat".
:indyhat:
It was a bad month. Two weeks later somebody stole the wooden leg named "Smith" from the Frontierland Station. It was screwed down too, and on a shelf 8-foot off the floor!

Re: Stolen from the MK?
Hmmm....... Some very interesting answers. Thank you all.........
I ask because I am writing piece of fiction and my characters are going to steal something from the DW. I could not think of anything small enough to be plausible or signifigant enough to be missed. (I wanted to steal Michalelangelo from SE, but come on, how you going to pull that off?)
I think its going to be the hat of Leota's crystal ball..... I'm quite intrigued by the notion of my theives needing to evade the "drop" and the intrusion alarms... so i'm leaning towards the ball.

I suppose it also just makes it easier for them to catch. Just wrap them up in the netting and turn them in to Orange County. :D:Shorty82 wrote: People have also tried to steal Madame Leota's crystal ball in the Haunted Mansion. It got to be such a problem at WDW that I understand it will disappear into the ceiling if the intrusion alarm goes off. At least one person was seriously injured trying to steal it, they didn't realize there isn't a floor between the ride path and Madam Leota's area and fell quite a ways (there is now cargo netting in place to catch anybody stupid enough to jump the railing).
"Send me a message from somewhere beyond..." That somewhere beyond is likely to be 33rd street, looking for bail money...
Gawrsh, yah-huh!

Oh cool. So March, are you going head to head with Ridley Pearson? I've mostly enjoyed his books, but the whole "empty park after dark" thing is just hard to get past.Saint March wrote:Hmmm....... Some very interesting answers. Thank you all.........

The first book wasn't too bad, but the scene inside IASW creeped me out. Gave me worse nighmares than "It".GaTechGal wrote:Oh cool. So March, are you going head to head with Ridley Pearson? I've mostly enjoyed his books, but the whole "empty park after dark" thing is just hard to get past.

Yup. Sorry, the image used was the closest I was willing to dig for.ktulu wrote:The pork pie hat?
But if you know that, you understand why it was so upsetting.

This is interesting. I couldn't imagine trying to lean (or get out of) my doombuggy in order to grab Madame Leota's crystal ball. Guess that's why they're called stupid guests, huh? lol
March - how about the Bible in SE?....that's probably not nailed down and it's an important artifact.

Yeah, that is upsetting. Also very fitting to have that hanging in the station!Zazu wrote:Yup. Sorry, the image used was the closest I was willing to dig for.
