Homeless No More
Homeless No More
Tried to post this last Saturday, but when I tried to log in, it kept logging me off. Who's fault is that, the Web, the library computer, or the site?
Anyway, as of last week, I entered a shared housing project started by a staffer at Isaiah House, under the aegis of Catholic Worker. I share a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom part of a 1929 house next door to the shelter with 6 other ladies from the shelter. We pay $200 a month each for rent, our first, last, and utilities are paid, no deposit or credit check required. There's only one shower, but we manage fine. Beats the heck out of sharing four bathrooms with between 50-100 women!
Yesterday after church, I got my bed and some other items out of storage at church. For the first few nights, I slept on the floor of my room, which I share with 3 other ladies, on the foam mat I'd used at the shelter. Then we got some beds donated--thin box springs/foundations and a regular matress, plus pillows and bedding. Slept on one of those for the next few days. Last night, I slept in my own bed for the first time in 9 months!
Later today, my friend who took care of Tripod will be giving me her cremains. That's right, Tripod's coming home with me. At last. I wish she was still alive so they could enjoy her, but.... I cleaned her collar that I've been wearing on my arm since I last saw my baby girl, and it's going on her urn. I checked with my roomies, and they're okay with my having Tripod's ashes in the room with me.
Hopefully soon, the other things on my wish list--my own room and bath, a bathtub, etc.-- will come my way somehow or other. Can't install a tub here, so.... We got T.V. last night too--I sat up until 10 P.M. watching Mythbusters. Not cable/satellite, but it beats a test pattern.

Good news! Soon you'll be posting from your mansion while your pool boy is bringing you a fresh glass of ice tea!
