Question - Hair Color
Well, I did it !!! I've taken the first step toward my January move to Orlando and hopefully, my employment with WDW.
One of the rules for WDW employment state that frosted hair is not acceptable for employees. My hair is light brown with blonde highlights.
Will Disney hire me if I qualify or do I need to be only 1 hair shade?
Silly question, I know, but I want to be ready. Trying different colors before I get there allows me to choose what will look best for me.
Thanks for understanding.
Good to be back on SGT.
HC, now in downtown Georgia for a few months.

Re: Question - Hair Color
It depends on where you work, but as a cast member in the parks and resorts, the general rule is 1 natural color, complementary to your complexion. There are some Disney jobs not directly in WDWP/R that may have a modified dress code for "cast members". I'm torn on highlights because I think WDW said no, but I've seen very natural high/lowlights in hair, and people who have them naturally also. I would start with 1 shade and feel it out later on in your employment, but I think they just want you looking really natural; in other words subtle tones of auburn / brown might pass over black hair with blonde highlights.
They don't want to see blue hair, or red hair the color of Anastasia's wig (unless you're playing that character and wearing a wig). They want you to project a certain look, and you should be willing to portray that "clean cut" natural appearance.
When you go through the app process online, they will clue you in on a lot. When you get hired, they will provide you with many more details and training. You can apply once every 6 months for the Parks / Resorts jobs, so really think about what things you'd like to do, then discuss the available opportunities with a recruiter. Keep in mind that it might take time, and you might need to start out doing something you don't really like, in order to move into something you really want. Put some serious thought into it and take it from a professional perspective like any other serious job; a lot of people I talk to act like it's a silly place to work, but in my walking around I've found it to be a serious operation and an incredible business challenge for any professional. In my opinion, those that dismiss it as "fantasyland" will fail. I had plenty of executives at my old company that felt that way; they were failures at my old company, and they would fail at WDW.
If I were you, I'd walk around before applying and get a feel for the existing cast members' appearances and mannerisms. For most people it is not a big deal to trade their mohawk for a CM costume. Some people are sensitive, but I didn't feel that anything regarding the look was entirely unreasonable, at least not at my age and immaturity level.
Welcome to Orlando, best of luck to you!

Re: Question - Hair Color
I think that the main thing to remember is that hair should be a natural color. I have highlights (both natural and not). I've had them throughout my Disney life. The "secret" is to get highlights that complement your hair color and skin tone and to have thin ones that simulate spending time in the sun instead of thicker streaks. Basically, don't get bleach blonde highlights on back hair (I'm not even sure you can, but if you can, don't do it)

Re: Question - Hair Color
It's gotta be natural.
That said, I know of someone who, if she spends enough time in the sun, her hair turns purple. I don't know if she has that documented with the company, or if they even would.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?
Re: Question - Hair Color
I thought I saw a couple of female performers in the 3pm parade at MK on Thursday who had highlights in their hair. Though, the highlights matched the costume that they were wearing (one had a red streak and a red top). I'm not sure whether that was intentional.Big Wallaby wrote:It's gotta be natural.

And sorry we didn't get to meet while I was down here - it was a world of perpetual motion for my family and me. Thanks for the PM though, and I'll be there again in March!
Gawrsh, yah-huh!
