Curious, what's the deal with the finger scan?

Post by javaonline » Fri Oct 15, 2010 3:20 pm

At our recent week's stay...I used different fingers, sometimes got the green light before I could even scan a finger...same happened with my wife and my dad's tickets. It just seemed so random.

I'm sure the answer is probably shrouded in CIA type security, but just something I noticed.

Also, for you natives. What's up with these places offering to buy un-used Disney tickets...sounded like a fraud based on what I know about MYW tix, but not sure how that works if they're giving YOU money.

I have heard that on crowded days/at crowded times the scanners may be turned off for a while in order to reduce congestion.

They buy it from one person and sell it to another, in clear violation of Disney's "non-transferable" policy. Who ends up being defrauded varies. Assuming the person buys it believing they're working with a legit dealer, then can't get into the parks, the individual is defrauded. If the individual knows what they're doing and still find a way to use the ticket, then it's defrauding Disney.

To elaborate, this part is true. Depending on how crowded the park is, biometrics can be turned on, off, or partially on.

Yup. Law that Disney paid good money to have enacted. (You could look it up.)

I don't understand how those ticket places are so common. Even on signs that clearly say "we buy your tickets" how do they get to stay there? It's illegal, and can be compared to a drug dealer that has booths on every corner on international drive. The people who run them are so lovely too. Leaning back in a chair, smoking, hawking to buy or sell tickets like an even more annoying taxi driver. Oh yes, I trust you.

This months there have been reports in The Orlando Sentinel that about 40 people have been arrested in Orange and Osceola Counties and about five places have been closed down for reselling tickets or other ticket fraud.

I'm pretty certain most of those places are fly-by-night operations. There a day or two and somewhere else the next. Makes it hard for the cops to track them down.

That's good news. The more of those places that get busted the better IMO.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious…
and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

Is there somewhere I could report locations? I've seen some that have been up for a while.
