That's okay, he doesn't work in buses, and I wiped down the wire cutters so they couldn't find his footprints on them. What gets me is how a bird managed to use those in the first place. And I just got the MRI results back. We looked at Zazu's head, since we were scratching our heads as to how a bird of Zazu's size could actually post on and moderate/administrate a web forum, much less tell a joke once in a while that most of his quite intelligent forum users don't get. It turns out that his brain extends a good way down his neck, and actually has articulation points to avoid damage when he turns his head. My friend Dr. Johnson wanted to dissect, so I had to sedate him. Permanently.

How many of you FL CM's have taken "the Basics" class?
I just had it today. I was not that impressed only because I do everything (for the most part anyway) that they were trying to get across.
There were some drivers in it with me that If they had listened, would have got some benefit though.
He is amazing.

I may have missed a few smilie request recently, as I'm only just back from two weeks off. Attended the National Model Railroad Convention in Detroit, including a very nice visit to one of Walt's old haunts, Greenfield Village.We ask and the great all knowing Zazu delivers time after time.

I think that even the less attentive GSMs in my area know that I could teach the class ... without notes or preparation.
On which point, I found out a couple of weeks ago that I had been made a trainer for Lobby Concierge. I found out in the usual way, "Zazu, meet Dweeb. You're going to be training him today."
I swear, some day Disney is going to train me for a new role with more than one sentence and I'm going to pass out from shock.

Gaw, the Basics class. You really want my opinion of that? Okay, here goes. This was my opinion both before and after.
1) Anyone that NEEDS a Basics class doesn't belong at Disney World or any other Disney property interacting with our guests. Sure, it's good to get reminders once in a while, but a formal class where you present it as though it's anything new? Anyone who is truly qualified to work for Disney does everything they said anyway, class or no. The only thing I got out of the class was something I came up with that I want to take to the management.
2) With MiMs, they really don't need bus drivers to have any sense of guest service, as they have truly taken the guest's experience on the bus out of our hands. That is also why I find something wrong with the system in every bus I get and decide that I can't work with it, switch everythign to manual control and do the talking myself. I have refused more tips in the last week than in my entire time at Disney. As it is, if you have the box going, the guests don't even notice you there welcoming them aboard; they are too busy looking past you.
3) From the responses I heard in my class, I think I was one of about five in the classroom that even cared about the guest service aspect of the job. Again, these people need to go somewhere else, and I don't care where that is. One guy, when asked to introduce himself and give his favorite Disney memory, decided to turn his introduction into a bitchfest. Again, at the risk of sounding like someone in a cult, if it's that bad, leave and get out of my hair: I would rather not deal with you.

I went to a "The Basics" class at Westgate about 3 weeks ago. The sad part of it was the lady giving the presentation just seemed like she did not want to be there. She was telling everyone about smiling and "looking interested," yet she could not even smile or pretend to be nice during the measly 2 hours she was giving the presentation.
It was all common sense stuff. Some people are more outgoing than others, but everyone can smile and be friendly. But I still pretended to be glad to be there.

Actually, I think the kid will work out fine. He was new to the property, and pretty much overwhelmed. As the Company had provided me with no training materials or directions about how to train, I simply gave him a copy of the WDW Guidebook that I edit and told him to read it three times/year. I don't know if he was more astonished by the book or by the fact it was a gift. Either way, he's promised to get my back the next time guests start tossing strollers at me.

I didn't know that you worked on the Passporter Guide. It's really terrific. We've used it quite often. The one for the cruise line is fantastic. We were WAY more prepared that most of our fellow cruisers, and I think we got more than the price out of the book just from not making rookie mistakes.
