Winning weekend

Post by BRWombat » Tue Oct 05, 2010 10:30 am

Sorry I've been away for a few days (if anyone noticed!). The VM competed this weekend at our Southwestern District convention, winning with an average score of 94.7, almost as high as our record-setting 94.9 last year. (The second-place chorus's score was 80.0.) I'm exhausted like I always am after a competition, but now things should settle down for us for a while. We have three shows over the next few weeks plus our Christmas shows in December (and a few more gigs after that), but no competition again until Kansas City next July.

Oh, and my church Bible study department had a chili cookoff on Sunday night, and I won that, too! Since I was already in "competition mode," I decided to go all-out with a great recipe and all sorts of fresh ingredients and seasonings. I even took off work last Friday to do the shopping and begin cooking, so there would be a lot of time for the flavors to come together.

We had to give our chili a creative name for the blind taste-testing by the judges, so I called mine "Lifted" chili. It wasn't until after it was announced as the winner that I revealed that I gave it that name because I "lifted" the recipe right off of foodnetwork.com! :D: (The recipe is here -- you have to love any food that starts off with massive quantities of applewood-smoked bacon!)

So all-in-all, a good weekend. Now if only I could catch up on my sleep...

Congrats on all the winning. If you're anything like my you motto is I'll sleep when I'm dead.

Actually, I much prefer (the title of Dave Barry's latest book) "I'll Mature When I'm Dead." :D:
