Does she have a water bowl near the kitchen? And will she drink when you wash your hands or run water in the sink? For some reason the minute that Hubby or I start to wash our hands in the sink, our dog will decide it's time to drink from his bowl. (He's a messy drinker that we usually have to wipe after, so we tend to pay attention to when he goes to have a drink.) We've had to use the hand washing trick a couple times when it was really warm and we worried he wasn't drinking enough.

Why not put some yummy flavor in her water, just like Mom and Dad? I know diabetics that use it and it is low fat, no sugar, etc etc etc

Could be an alternative?

The doc sent us home with some canned food.

Hills Science Diet L/D (Liver Diet)? I grew up with a dog with a totally nerfed liver (birth defect) and she lived to a ripe old age on that stuff.

He sent us home with Hill's Prescription Diet W/D. It's designed for weight reduction. She's on it for the low fat so her liver gets a break.

The latest good news is Scooter's kidneys are fully functional. The doc told us the liver takes longer to recover so it's probably weekly blood tests for a few months.

She must be feeling better as she attacked one of her stuffed animals late yesterday.

We took Scooter in for another blood draw earlier today. Just got a call from the vet with the initial results. Her liver function is improving to the extent that he wants to wait two weeks before the next test.

We need to keep her on the low fat pooch food and filtered water but, all in all, she continues to improve.

Hobie, sorry...been off SGT for awhile. I was sorry to read about Scooter, but am glad everything seems to be functioning well again. Hopefully, Scoot can start keeping you warm again at night.

We got the results of Scooter's latest blood test yesterday. The doc says her liver function is back to normal.

He did say that she's got thicker than normal blood. This appears to be unrelated to her eating the snail bait. He wants to do one more fasting blood test. Regardless of the results it looks like she'll be on a low fat diet with no people food so she'll have a long life.

All in all it's very good news.
