Jim Henson Memorial

A place to be entertained. Videos, jokes, games, and more.
Forum rules
At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.

Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

Yeah, its very sad. Jim Henson left far too soon. His death was very untimely.
Those guys are awesome though.

At least now, (after some misfires) "The Muppet Show" characters seem to be on the right track and things are looking up for the Muppets.

Oh, and just in case anyone is unsure...

Disney only owns the "The Muppet Show" characters and "Bear in the Big Blue House".

The Jim Henson Company still owns "Fraggle Rock".

The "Sesame Street" characters are owned by the Sesame Workshop.

Oh yeah! Their pupperty techniques are awesome.
I know all about how Big Big and Bear are related as far as performance techniques. I thought it was very clever of them to perform Bear in a similar way as Big Bird. A lot of people couldn't figure out how Bear was performed.

Its interesting to note that Caroll Spinney (performer of Big Bird and Oscar) has been training an understudy for Big Bird; Matt Vogel.
Matt will usually only perform Big Bird for green screen segments, or when Big Bird and Oscar are talking in the same scene. Sometimes Matt will do the voice himself, other times Caroll will dub in the lines.

yeah caroll is getting up there in age.
those full body puppet suits take some practise to operate.
they used those suits in the movie where the wild things are.
you can see a video on youtube were they are getting all the puppeteers in shape for thier roles.

I like hanging out at the playhouse in DCA out here. you can always tell who is new in the bear.

I know what you mean, thought I'm sorry to tell you that "Bear in the Big Blue House" is no longer a part of Playhouse Disney Live. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse now starts the show.

Watched both parts of the video. That was really sweet. I have to admit I got kind of teary at the last song, "If Just One Person." Jim Henson was one of my heroes growing up.
