You know, being told "You look Grumpy" at a Disney park would be a great set-up if a certain member of the Seven Dwarfs is in the area....DisneyMom wrote:Yup,I get the "You look Grumpy/tired"thing all the time, except when I'm at DL (as a GUEST)![]()

My surgery was 2 weeks after Mo's wedding. I have to put ice on the areas where it is still swollen. :(

Re: Tell me the truth
I find it funny that I have had to practice just the opposite of smiling, and not actually scowling either.
I find that maintaining a non "communitave" non-reactive expression is a bit harder than you think.
but it does come in VERY handy at times.
I guess if someone got "in my face" and demanded I smile, I would do my best to conjure up a burp!
then apologize while trying not to laugh!

Re: Tell me the truth
Oh geez. I tend to smile while onstage--that's just me, I'm usually pretty happy.
But I swear, the moment I start to stop smiling, I get looks. One day it was a hundred plus degrees and I was halfway into my cart rearranging my ice cream (opening boxes, cleaning out clutter and trash, etc.) and a guest tapped on my shoulder and said "Aren't you a Disney Cast Member? You're supposed to be happy!" I just popped out of the cart and gave her the cheesiest smile ever. My cart extra couldn't stop laughing afterwards!
I had a friend who had a guest tell her the same thing, but she just gave the guest the "Move along" nod and semi-smile-not-really. The guest yelled "I'm going to complain to your boss!". The guest ended up complaining to the first person in a suit he found, and went off. The manager just stood there and look confused--turns out he was a custodial manager, not an ODV manager. It was really funny, and the manager just came and laughed with the CM.

Bizarre, both of those guests. Maybe you could tell them that you have a terrible virus, the Doctors just haven't figured out how it's spread yet :twisted:ttztotdca50 wrote:Oh geez. I tend to smile while onstage--that's just me, I'm usually pretty happy.

Hehe, that reminds me of my reaction when the guests did that to me... I just gave them a big 'ol, very sarcastic, obviously VERY fake, you-can-go-away-now smile. I don't think they got the sarcasm, though. They just looked appeased and walked away. :D:

Re: Tell me the truth
As someone who works with the public, I can honestly tell you, when I'm working and I'm not smiling its because there is something more important on my mind and distracting me by reminding me to smile only makes the situation worse. My theroy is that a smile can be contagious along with good manners. When I leave a transaction or a conversation I smile and say thank you or goodbye. At work, if I'm trying to finish a project and someone tries to make me smile or interupts what I'm doing, it only ticks me off.
So to all Cast Members.... I promise never to tell you to smile or do any stupid hand guestures to get you to smile. If we do make eye contact, I will smile at you and nod or say "hi" and continue on my way. YOU are part of the wonderful time my husband and I have when we are on vacation, as we know from having jobs of our own, people trying to be cute or sarcastic just get in the way of doing your job!
