flat visions of misty places,
fragments bound below my surface,
but I can write dreams,
they flow from me,
inscribed but now unbound,
I touch them,
and they are real,
and they are real."

Really, I think Disney should get over themselves and let her wear the hijab. It's not a big deal, it's not a huge distraction from the Disney Look; they should just relax about it.

Were you ever really in entertainment? I would think that if you did you would understand how much that Character integrity and the Disney Look are a vital part of the brand and product that we are known world wide for. We offered the woman a job where she could wear whatever she felt she should be allowed to. Personally, that was already above and beyond, it's not like she is owed or deserves a job by TWDC, there are plenty of other establishments that she can get a job at.Amphigorey wrote:Really, I think Disney should get over themselves and let her wear the hijab. I agree. I doubt darn near no one would have even noticed if she did wear it.Amphigorey wrote:Really, I think Disney should get over themselves and let her wear the hijab. It's not a big deal, it's not a huge distraction from the Disney Look; they should just relax about it.
I know it wouldn't bother me none.

I was in Characters.kurtisnelson wrote:Were you ever really in entertainment? The Disney Look can change; it's not set in stone. There's no reason a hijab can't be incorporated into the Disney Look. I can perfectly well envision people wearing them onstage in costume, and I don't think it would be distracting. Hijabs are normal, and the vast majority that I've seen are solid, subdued colors, which would blend in with the costumes.
I'm not commenting on her behavior; I'm saying that Disney should relax about it.
Oh! I should also mention that I'm a professional costume designer, so I have a very good handle on how things like this work.

I thought Disney did create her some sort of head covering and she refused or some crap. I'm with Disney on this one, conform to the look, if we decide to change it, we'll let you know. Personally, I don't see it going with the theme.

sure...but what about having all women just wearing burkas for their costume, because SOME parties in that religion are offended if women are not covered up?Amphigorey wrote:Really, I think Disney should get over themselves and let her wear the hijab. there has to be a limit, and Disney did make a good faith effort to accomodate her.
I suspect that she rejected the offers in favor of the publicity angle more than anything else.
again, I am reminded of the radical imam's speech of several years ago.
it was concerning perservering against the great satan (keep hearing the SNL church lady!)
and one of the refrains that he kept repeating throughout his speech was
"..and we will use their own laws aginst them"
while I am not saying there is a conspiricy around every corner, the same methods seem to be showing up in "western" countries concerning such things.
I think Disney is correct in their standards.

Re: DLR employee sent home for wearing muslim head covering
I am sure that it could. But I have this weird feeling that this would not be enough for her. Disney could create her a custom hijab in the appropriate colors and fabric, and she'd probably still complain that it wasn't sufficient because she didn't have the freedom to wear one she felt was appropriate.Amphigorey wrote: There's no reason a hijab can't be incorporated into the Disney Look.
Me personally, I would not notice it if she had one on, provided it meshed with the rest of the costume.
But I understand that Disney has to defend this, because if they let this one go, then they're going to have to deal with a million other requests to modify things. You know, "Hey you let HER do this...." If Disney wants to be able to defend the "look", they need to deal with this...
