Last official Star Tours flight at Disneyland

A place to be entertained. Videos, jokes, games, and more.
Forum rules
At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.

Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

Last official Star Tours flight at Disneyland

Post by Disneyguy85 » Wed Jul 28, 2010 6:11 pm

As most of us are aware, July 26th was the last day to ride Star Tours at Disneyland.

For those interested, here is a video of the last official Star Tours flight for guests during regular park hours.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSGzFQ2Yt2E

Its not too clear, but for those who weren't there, it gives you a feeling of the energy and what it was like.

I was on this last ride. I'm sitting in the front row, third seat from the exit doors. It was an awesome experience.

If anyone if interested, I found a better quality version of the last official flight, taken from a different POV.

Okay, I laughed, I cried- I seriously cried.

You don't know how much I appreciate you posting that.

Not only was it an experience to feel everyone's emotions as they rode it but this is one of my most beloved attractions that I am now medically prohibited from riding- and I MISS it. I looked at the entrance so longingly when I was in WDW two weeks ago.

I have NEVER seen this attraction so clearly. My vision was already way gone the last time I was allowed to ride it.

Thank you- SO much.

When you all shouted "May the Force Be With You" I had goosebumps. St. March was quoting the dialog along with you LOL.

Brilliant.

I wish you'd said that while you were here. There is a way you can ride safely. It's called a "flight check". Just let the cast know you want to go to Endor but can't handle all the usual G force. They'll put you in a cabin for the trip that does not bounce around so badly.

Not quite the same show, but it doesn't come with days of back pain like the original!

That's really good to know - my MIL had a hard time with it because of some medical stuff. I'll remember for next time, thanks Zazu!

Thanks Zazu-- sadly, it's not the spine this time it's the eyes. Any shaking is too much and must be avoided so I'd be afriad to try it at all. I was seriously worrying after the second hour of steady turbulance on the flight down :( fortunately everything was okay even though we got shook up like popcorn.

Yup, no more Star Tours, no more Test Track...but as long as I can still see, it's not anything to really complain about...is good to know for other people in my family though who have back issues too- TYVM!

Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. The "flight check" is just the movie -- no motion in the cabin at all unless you giggle a lot. Tomorrowland Terrace has more motion! Perfectly safe for your tender eyes (not counting the costumes of any SGs riding with you).

Now the chicken version of Mission Space, that does have the vibration and tilting back and forth, it only skimps on the g force, so that one should remain off limits to you.
