You're welcome to say "Blessed be".

I'm glad I found you guys, I've been lurking over at another board and they were starting to me me think I was crazy... I've never demanded anything for free, never got my ese kids a GAC, don't think Harry Potter is a flop just because it's not a Disney. I also had a tendency towards sarcasm not everyone appreciates.
I personally thought it was a Pokemon reference. Maybe I'm just a nerd.

Yeah, what is wrong with you??? :p: Oh yeah -- you're sane. No wonder Board X didn't understand you. :D:

Hi Moonstone!

I didn't know it wasn't native to Florida - wonder why they did that? But I think it makes perfect sense, considering that most of us that live here aren't natives! (I'm not, thanks to the Air Force, but my mother and children are)

Welcome to SGT, and I have a really weird sense of humor that is usually disguised as sarcasm, or so I'm told. I also have dual ESE kids and love Harry Potter, so we should get along really well!

I will admit to taking up a chair at a small table at the ABC Commissary for a little while one day last week and not ordering any food (I did have a drink though- I was too nervous to eat at the time) because I was waiting for my return call time for Idol Experience and I was melting outside! But in my own defense, there were TONS of empty tables (it was an off-time) and I certainly would have given up the seat if there hadn't been for people with food. In fact routinely I offered to let people sit part of their parties at my table if they needed to since it was only me.

And this should prolly be another thread but what the heck- I did have to get back off busses several times because there were no seats and if I try to stand I will only injure myself and the people I fall on. Trouble often was that people with ECVs would come up the back entrance- advancing ahead of families that had been waiting half an hour for a bus- and be loaded on, the ECV taking up four seats and then their party of ten taking up a lot more- and all being seated before the rest of those waiting in line for the bus. That's not right.

I've traveled in a chair for entire trips before and we've always waited in line at the front with everybody else. When did they start letting guests in ECVs cut the line at the last minute and hence tick off many people in the process when they then had to stand on the bus or missed it because it was full?

The way it was this week made me wish that they had a few special busses designated for ECVs and their parties- and I say that as someone who has ridden a mile on those wheels, so to speak. We should have to wait like everybody else.

That, I'm afraid is part of the ADA laws. You cannot leave them behind. All reasonable accommodation must be made. And loading at the last minute is indeed considered a reasonable accommodation.

Well then what about ADA laws for me then?

I have a crutch and am obviously physically disabled. It is HARD for me to stand waiting for a bus.

You mean that on those busses that were too full for me to stand, that I had to get back off of and wait for sometimes two more to come before I could get a seat- that the driver should have insisted someone give up a seat for me instead of me waiting because I am physically incapable of standing?

I did not know this. I don't quite know how to feel about it. Or is that only if you're on an ECV? Each time I had to explain to the driver why I was fighting the crowd to get back off of the bus and none of them said a word to me to stop me.

Technically, Absolutely yes! It is a little grayer for someone that is mobile but if I had been the driver I would have insisted that someone give up a seat for you because of the safety factor involved. It's an easy fix, I just won't move the bus until it happens.
