Sometimes I browse the MousePad message board and I was reading a post about how one of the people heard about a fire, so they proceeded to stake out a seat and tried to get a better idea of what was going on. All I can say is... how stupid can you get? I understand that people are interested when something out of the ordinary is happening at Disneyland... but is it honestly worth getting in the way of emergency personnel/security/etc… just to have a “neat” story to tell your friends later?
I noticed this twice this last week. One was the irritating taxi drivers that pick up next to Harbor point gate. We had 2-3 fire trucks, as well as 3-4 ambulances trying to get through the bus area of the shuttle area off harbor, and these taxi drivers could care less that they are in the way of emergency traffic, as long as they get their fare.
Another was on Sat. We had a “suspicious package” alert in the red zone of the shuttle area, (meaning some dumb tourist left their suitcase, but with current mindset we had to call out the K9 unit) so they had us keep everyone at least 10ft. away. This meant all the guests trying to get to the red shuttle busses had to go around to the cast shuttle stop and cross the street to get to the red zone. This lady comes up to us and starts cussing out my manager that she was NOT going around unless he told her exactly what was going on. He isn’t at liberty, obviously, so she shoves past him. The security lead had to stop her as best as possible, since we really can’t physically stop a guest (which I REALLY wish we could.)
How stupid can you get? :x

Ughhhh They Don't Make Enough Booze to Ease this Pain...

I totally feel your pain. People are so stupid, especially during an incident.. Everyone has to take a look, and be nosy, just like you said, so they can have a story, and a half azzed story at that... I read that post and it couldn't be more lame... The best part of that post is that the first post said that the poster was sneaking behind a family so they could watch the action, and if the family got to watch, so could the poster.
On a different note, I work in EMS in AZ and I was curious how they work EMS and Fire/Rescue at DLR. Do they have their own units, or do they just use Anaheim Fire? That would be a great gig, to work at DLR in EMS. I know that they have RNs at DLR, but most RNs don't have a bunch of pre-hospital experience.

my first summer in merchandise (84), I was in the Main Street Mad Hatter kind of out in front of the counter during a lull in the action. This couple walked in, and just as they came through the door, the young lady keeled over - I literally jumped over and grabbed her head so it wouldn't hit the corner of the counter display. Her other half and I kind of let her down gently to the floor - she was out - so I called CFA and someone from security got there first kind of trying to ask her questions and so on. In the meantime, a crowd was starting to gather and I asked people to step back to give her air - everyone was cooperative except for the one middle aged be-atch. She kept worming her way to the front of the crowd, crossed one arm in front of her torso, rested the other arm on top of that and had her hand sort of pointed on her cheek as if she were evaluating the situation. The woozy lady was pregnant, so the nurse called for a stretcher and we had to make room. Of course, nosy lady woudn't budge. I finally looked at her and said "Ma'am, are you a nurse or other kind of medical professional?" and she said "um, no" so I said "well, then if you can't help, get out of the way." She gave me one of those "well, I never!" but screw her and everyone like that. I yell at my mother for doing the same thing - actually everyone in my family has been lectured
because when it's you on the stretcher, it's really awful to have all those looky-loos staring at you!

Today a guest that wasn't feeling so well decided to use the back steps of the gallery for his toliet. He seriously pulled down his pants and exploded all over the floor and wall. :shock: The poor plants got thrown out because of it. Afterward he walked off and a cast member who knew what was going on was like "Can I assist you sir?" His reply "Oh no (pats stomach), I feel much better now!" So even though it was his illness (kinda) I thought that was hillarious, and horrible. How do you just walk away and leave that there without telling anyone? He looked to be normal.

Anyway, I was in Frontierland when the tree fell. I was one of the first cast members there. There is this HUGE tree lying across the walkway with people with different degrees of injuries and people are just milling around looking at it. Several other cast members and I started diverting the crowd either out the Frontierland gates or back towards Fantasyland. This one guy pushes through the crowd and starts heading around the tree toward the river. I tried to stop him but he shoved his way through yelling that he had to get through and we couldn't stop him. Hello?!? Can anyone see this big tree? Big tree fall down. Ouch. Even standing next to the tree people were still mad that they couldn't get through.
God I love that man!!!!!!

There are 4 Paramedics stationed on property from AFD, and they are used when necessary. Disneyland Fire Department is used only for major elevator entrapments, or very small fires. I think anytime DFD responds to a 904 (fire) with flames, AFD is called in for back-up.Max Fischer wrote:
