I may be in the exception, but I tend to tone out the automated speils yet listen when it's a real person talking. I do understand that not all drivers are the same (we hadn't been from 2001 to 2004 and in between they changed the busses going from DTD to parks, when we asked one driver about it, he didn't seem to want to "chit chat" or explain why even though we were the only ones on the bus, but another driver was very talkative and explained the SG abuse of parking at DTD).

They probably did it to cover the amount of people that don't listen to either the driver or the automated, but they have a better chance of them getting even part if it's repeated through a computer.

It really ticks me off that so many SG's are so wrapped up in their world that they can blatently ignore another human talking/helping them. On the up side, you can't get the "well the driver never told me that" complaint; as it's being said over the intercom.

I really wouldn't let it upset you mon marcupial favori. The repeat guests that "get" the disney magic understand your angst and hope they get a driver that makes their trip more pleasant (like you and cran). The people that will never get it try to bring a stroller with a sleeping toddler onboard and complain that you are ruining their once in a lifetime trip with your safety consciousness (how dare you? I paid good money for this vacation, yada yada). I've found that it's not hard to overlook the bad people by looking for the good people, they will stand out more and make it easier to concentrate on them and ignore the others.

WDW is getting crazy with the park commandos and rude people. We've been there 3 times since 2004 (most recently last august) and DL countless numbers of times (I think three this year, omg..i'm an addict) and I have found the crowds in general are more laid back at DL than WDW. The service is top notch in both locations, but the crowds seem to be more social at DL. When people bump you, they say "excuse me", etc.

Just remember that the people that love the fact that you moved there for the reasons you did GET it. Forget all the others and concentrate on looking for those of use who DO get it. I think you would be pleasantly surprised at our numbers.

[font=Palatino Linotype]my dear bw...i've never been to any of the other parks but our own land (as you and others well know), but YOU are the CM that keeps us coming back to the park...YOU are the CM we look for...the CM we search for when we go to the park...the cm we HOPE to see...the cm we are SO VERY DISAPPOINTED when we DON'T GET TO see...

if it's one of the two things i've learned from this set of message boards it's this: there are park devotees that aren't necessarily there just to see the parks...oh, yes, we go there for the atmosphere, the memories, etc...but we also go for the PEOPLE...and by PEOPLE i mean the CM'S...OUR
F R I E N D S ...and by OUR i mean the REGULARS (not necessarily the ap regulars cuz not all regulars have ap's)

YOU definitely went to the world with an idea in mind...a dream if you will...please don't lose your dream...don't let "them" take it away from you...don't let "them" spoil it for you...as i told you the other day "they've" been dinking (and that's the nicest way i can put it and it's only cuz it's here...believe me, i have my fav word for what "they're" doing) with OUR cm's out here and it's a SHAME (also put in the nicest of terms)...if only "they" let us (regulars) give our opinions on things i'm sure it would be much different...but "they" won't...so all we (all I) can do is encourage you to keep up with your dream...if driving a bus isn't it find another place at the park to make your dream come true...

you went such a long way to get to where you are...such a risk...and so brave...you and your wife...

it's up to you, dear BW, now...GO MAKE SOME MAGIC! :genie:

sorry for being so "sappy" as my niece would say, but, hey, i have a soft spot
(and, no, it's not in my head ;) )

[font=Palatino Linotype]the powers that be don't understand or realize their true assets...their dedicated employees...they're the ones who make the true magic...now isn't that sad? :( ...they only care about $ and what might save them some $...they don't care about US and they don't really care about our FRIENDS...that's why we need to...which is why it isn't unusual to see us with our arms wrapped around a cm...but what's really WONDERFUL is to have the cm wrap their arms around us! (i used to think that cm's would think "oh no, it's those crazy blabber mouthed women again"...but it's not like that...and it's so wonderful to know they look forward to seeing us as much as we look forward to seeing them ("hey, you two, where have you been? we haven't seen you in so long?" really? we were here 3 times last month :) ) ...if the corp. won't give our cm's the pats and attaboys they need then who better to give them but us (and i mean US collectively...have you hugged your cm today :D: )

be where ic? if you mean disneyland (let me look into my crystal ball) i would say yes...if it's not a holiday or weekend (and even then we sometimes break our "no weekend" rule) we can almost always be talked into a trip to the park...are you coming back this way then? :)

if you mean disneyworld i would have to say no...unfortunately... :(

Thank you for the kind words Elena, It's guests like you and Elyse that make my day a joy at work. If only all guests were as thoughtful and caring as you ladies, the Disneylands / Worlds would be the eutopia that all seek and will never find.

Then again, if all guests were like you then there would be no SGT.Com.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.
Big Wallaby wrote: With regard to the PA system and when it is working properly, having an 8-second delay is a safety issue to me. If you need to warn of something coming up right now and everybody needs to... too late. Also, with the automated announcements, I have it from the MiMs coordinators that it is supposed to not allow you to cut over the announcements. That is a temporary thing that we have, where we can cut out the announcer.
This "feature" IS a safety issue. If the powers to be allow the system not to be overridden, I sincerely hope that an emergency never happens during a spiel. My lawyer will be the first one in line to file papers. 8 seconds is way too long of a delay. I don't see why the time delay cannot be shortened. It should be just a patch to adjust the delay.
Big Wallaby wrote: --Have a Disney character making the announcements. This idea was given to me by a guest a few days ago, and I think it's brilliant. If it was Mickey, Goofy, Sebastian, Scar, Figment (etc., etc., etc.,) making the announcements, I would be telling everyone to shut up and listen. Right now, I love playing the recording of Walt Disney at Disneyland at the opening ceremonies for people on my bus. Heck, I would love it if there was a way to use the system so I was interacting with characters on the way to parks, so that on the way to Magic Kingdom I'm talking to Mickey, on the way to Epcot I'm talking to Figment (I would never go to any other park), and so on. Imagine what would happen if the character experience could happen before the guests ever get to the park. Now that would be cool! But give me a way to shut it off if I need to as well. But I guess for my thesis of this idea, I give you the idea of Wishes. Would you rather Jimminy Cricket be the MC as he is now, or Disembodied Dave from the monorail and now buses?
This is a great idea. I loved it when Wallaby and I talked yesterday. This should not be an big issue to implement. It's just a matter of recording new spiels in the character voice that is desired and a new download.

These are suggestions that would really enhance the guest experience (and safety) and should require little or no money to implement and may very well save Disney money in the future. If there is significant $$$ involved to do this, I have a suggestion.

Put in a photostation at Club Cool. Have the Automated spiel for Epcot advertise the free soda tasting at Club Cool. Set it up so that in order to sample the Cokes from around the world you need to enter this station first. Trigger the photo to be taken X number of seconds after the Beverly dispenser is activated. Guests will buy photos of the looks on unsuspecting faces after tasting Beverly. This will generate enough income to fund any and all MiM's inprovements.

PS: I do spiel about Club Cool now and "push" Beverly. I wish the I could see some of those faces. :hysteria:

Now, that's just cruel. Luckily my husband and I were warned of it before our first trip. We still tried it (you have to) but at least we knew it would be bad. Of course I don't think either of us believed that it could possibly be as bad as were told. We were wrong.
