Thank you

Post by JenJen » Wed Jun 30, 2010 3:45 pm

I have spent the last few months planning my families October vacation. In doing so I have spent a fair amount of time on another message board. I believe it to be the one refered to as "Board X" on here.

Until I found this site I had almost convinced myself that we would be the only people there without a scooter and/or a GAC. I was sure my kid would be the only child in all of Florida not on "the spectrum" and we would the only people around who didn't spend out entire vacay bitching and moaning about the prices, heat, crowds, bugs, busses or lack of upgrades.

I now know that there is a chance that we might, just maybe, fingers crossed, encounter a few plain old normal people who, like us are just happy to be there and be together!

So thanks!!!

P.S. This is no way intended as an assault on scooter riders, GAC users or spectrum kids. I was just starting to feel like EVERYONE I encountered over there fell into one of those catagories and that since I didn't...Well you know.

Hello JenJen, I am the resident dragon and would like to be the first to offer you a very warm* welcome to that slice of the internet we call SGT. This website contains threads with quick twists and turns and I would like to advise you to not try to hard to keep up with them. Please keep your hands, arms, and legs safely inside the website at all times and enjoy your stay. The Marsupial Welcoming Committee has been informed of your presence and will be here when they can to give you their own special welcome.

*this instance of warm is actually hot**... very hot

**this instance of hot means that you are now literally on fire, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience

Hi there! Hope you have a wonderful time while you're down here - October is a wonderful time of the year to visit!

You miss the horrible heat, the summer crowds, and the snowbirds and Brazilians aren't here yet - oh, and I think you'll be here during the Food and Wine Festival which is my absolute favorite time at Epcot!

Welcome!!!!!!

You're going to love it in October. I have been twice in October, and I'm going again this year (starting Oct. 14). Smaller crowds, less oppressive heat (though it can still be there), and Food and Wine at Epcot really make it a wonderful time.

I particularly love it because I'm a golfer, and it's usually only a few weeks before the annual PGA TOUR event at Disney. That means that the two courses they use end up playing a little slicker and tougher than usual ;)

I'm by no means a "Disney expert", just a guest who has some CM friends and who enjoys all that Disney has to offer. Let me know if you have any questions!

Welcome, JenJen!!! After visiting that other board, I always wonder if my family are going to be the only ones not bitching and moaning as well! :D: Spot on with your description there!

Enjoy October....I think the year I went (2007) there was some unual humidity or something. But it is a lovely time of year and the F&W Festival is awesome!!! Have fun!

Jen, there are other trip planning boards that are MUCH friendlier than Board X. I suggest Passporterboards.com or TourGuideMike.com. I find both really helpful in my planning. And we've been several times during October and really love it. But I will have to tell you that last October while we were there Orlando was having record heat. It was REALLY hot. So hot that we decided right there that we could NEVER go during the summer months. But defintily have a good time, and if you don't have little kids, I HIGHLY recommend the Haunted carriage ride over at Ft. Wilderness. It was the best $60 we spent and a great way to get up and personal with the Headless Horseman.

Welcome to the Board! :)
One Caveat- you may be running into people on the Spectrum and just not know it-not all of them use GAC cards. ;)

Awe shucks guys...Thanks for the welcome and advice! This is only reinforces how I felt on "the other board". Everytime I posted any question the only responses I got were links to old threads. Now lookie here, not a single link or reminder to check the sticky. Ugh...Really!?! That 300 page sticky?

GaTechGal- Many thanks for the suggestions of other planning boards. They both look good.

DisneyMom- Of course I'm going to encounter kids on the spectrum! What I was trying to articulate (rather poorly, I suppose) is that on the other board, it seemed like if my questions weren't about a disability, discount or how to get a freebie they were disregarded. :)
