Just got back...

I'll do you one better... An insanely convoluted acronym where one of the letters refers to yet *another* acronym...Zazu wrote:Yup. All names must be acronyms (even "a la carte", though none of us can remember what it is), and it's preferable that they also be the name of a character.
Could have done worse than FLIK. Could have named it POCAHONTAS for
"Perpetual On Call Accounting for Hours ON The Asphalt System"! :shaker:
At Harvard, the library catalog is HOLLIS: Harvard On-Line Library Information System. (It also fits that one of the big family names in Harvard's history was Hollis)
Well, periodically throughout the day my office gets batch files sent to us from the catalog.
This batch file process is called FETCHERRS: Facility to Enter Through the Catalog in HOLLIS End-user Retrieval Requests from Storage.
I kid you not.....

That's pretty long winded. You did say Harvard though.Rob562 wrote: This batch file process is called FETCHERRS: Facility to Enter Through the Catalog in HOLLIS End-user Retrieval Requests from Storage.

Reminds me of a cheer the cheerleaders had at my high school

Not so unusual, we use embedded acronyms every day.Rob562 wrote:I'll do you one better... An insanely convoluted acronym where one of the letters refers to yet *another* acronym...
RADAR = RAdio Detection And Ranging
RADIO = Radiation And Detection by Induced Oscillation
Can anyone name an acronym that's three layers deep?

I have a ficticious one from the fifth Alex Rider book Scorpia. In that, there is a criminal organisation called SCORPIA, and the letters SCORPIA stand for "Sabotage, CORruPtion, Intelligence and Assassination"; these are the organisation's main areas of operation.Zazu wrote:Can anyone name an acronym that's three layers deep?

Maybe someday I'll be a CM...
Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, United Kingdom...

Re: Just got back...
Sorry, seems I wasn't clear in my challenge.
RADAR includes the acronym RADIO, thus producing a 2-level acronym. My question was if anyone know of a 3-level acronym -- one where the first acronym includes a term that's an acronym, which itself includes a third acronym.
But to stick with the theme, what about CONTROL and KAOS?

CHAOS: Chief Has Arrived On Scene
Sorry, wrong KAOS.
Sorry, wrong KAOS.
Parties of 33 should consider dividing their parties into two groups of 16 and a half each.

Here's one that's infinite levels. G.O.D. stands for G.O.D. of djinn. Or is that cheating? :p:Zazu wrote:Sorry, seems I wasn't clear in my challenge.
