Airline rap

At the old Disney Hyperion Studio, the screening room where animators would show animated scenes to Walt for his approval was small, with no ventilation or AC. Not only was it hot, but the animators were nervously awaiting Walt's reaction to their work. Thus, the room became known as the Sweatbox. Even after the Studio moved to Burbank and elegant screening rooms were offered to the staff, the moniker remained.
Now SGT has a sweatbox of our own. This is the place to find and post all entertaining topics such as video links, jokes, games, and the like. A general rule of thumb is that if the thread is meant to be informative (interesting news stories for example), or a topic for discussion (like setting up a park meet) then it should go in the Break Room, but if the intent is to entertain the masses then it's home is The Sweatbox. I'm sure there will be grey areas at times, so if you have doubt as to where a new thread should go, just use your best judgement and the SGT Staff will be glad to move it later if you guessed wrong.

Re: Airline rap
I personally come from the airline environment, and Southwest Airlines is by far the best airline to work for. Everyone loves it, SWA treats ALL employees BETTER than the customers, and it really is an amazing company to work for...however some of the planes they fly are questionable, I mean if you want to really know what's wrong with their planes, go up in the cockpit and lift up the first officer's seat cushion and there will be a list of things wrong with the plane...the FAA does know about this on all airlines, but they're just afraid to look at these lists LOL

I commuted between San Jose and Burbank for two years on SWA. They were great to fly.
Regarding the statement, "... SWA treats ALL employees BETTER than the customers...," you give what you get. I was always treated very well by their ground and cabin crews.

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.

Re: Airline rap
The thinking behind treating the employees better than the customers is actually talked about in the book "Nuts" about Herb Kelleher (not sure if I got the speling rite), where it talks about his corporate atmosphere. I have, several times in my life, thought about working for SWA, especially after reading that book.
One of the things that stuck with me was the attitude that the customer is NOT always right. If they need to back up the employee, they will.
By allowing the employee the freedom to thrive, they make an excellent experience for the customer.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

Re: Airline rap
The only downside to SWA from people who worked there is the pay, it is usually less than other airlines. The awesomeness makes up for it. Their corporate HQ is fun to visit. Lunch and watching planes takeoff/land was a good time.

I've just learned that the customer almost always knows what their need is but not what is right.Big Wallaby wrote:One of the things that stuck with me was the attitude that the customer is NOT always right. If they need to back up the employee, they will.
