"That ride better vibrate and EP like a champ for a 3 hour wait"

Post by ICStupidPeople » Tue Jul 24, 2007 2:09 am

Does anyone else share my attitude on this? The lines waiting for nemo this past weekend were unreal. We were able to ride it with no wait but we had an early admission prior to upgrading to AP's on saturday, otherwise, we were going to skip it. When we exited the ride at about 7:20 am, the wait was already reaching 45 minutes to an hour. Although the ride was cute, I would have been pissed if I waited hours for it (although psychologically, people will say the ride is better than it is to justify the wait in their mind overall). Have any of you guys had the opportunity to ride it and say "not worth the wait"?

Don't get me wrong, it's cute, but it's not worth giving up hours of my life for. I thought maybe I would get a bit emotional and nostalgic remembering the old ride, but, that didn't even happen. This ride falls into the "if it doesn't vibrate or cause me to scream that I believe in a more powerful creator in vain, then it's not worth 2 plus hours of my time to wait for it".

I totally agree!! it's not worth it to wait five hours for a 15 minute ride. Luckily, I first rode it during the cast previews. Waited like 5 minutes. It's cute, but not worth my time. I try not tell people it's not wirth it, but saying it was cute ride for rides.

i've been on the ride 5 or 6 times now (i was very lucky to have gone on during the previews too...we happened to be in the right place at the right time)...it was cute (but still has a lot of bugs to be worked out)...and i must admit each time i've gone on i've noticed more and different things (did you see the mermaid and the sea serpent at the end?)...it wasn't earth shattering...i was very surprised to see so much of the old submarine voyage still in there...having watched them tear the "pool" down to the concrete you would have thought they would have done more with the old stuff...but i guess that was them bringing the old into the new (not unusual)...the longest wait we had was the official opening day...we got there early so we had to wait until they let the general public on, but once they started letting people on it was less than a half an hour's wait...the longest wait other than that was just about an hour...will i wait to go on again? probably...i still have family members who haven't been on it yet and i go to the park so often that i don't mind waiting in line...there's some good people watching to be done there in line

When I was a kid the subs were one of my favorite rides, so it was worth the approx. hour we waited. I wish I could have ridden it a couple more times so I could check out the scenery more. Ah well, the lines will die down and we'll be back out. I remember when pirates re-opened last year after the rehab, hour+ wait, then we hit DL after the 4th of July and waited less than 20 minutes. Of course on the last trip the wait was like 5 minutes, if that. I love that ride...

I used to like the old submarine ride, especially the underwater volcano and the mermaid scene, and the dumbfounded response from the "commander" of the sub over finding "mythical" creatures right there! That was my favorite part.

I agree. I think part of my "it's ok" reaction to the ride was hoping to get that nostalgic feeling of going with my father to WDW in the 70's back; but it's a new era and a new ride, I just need to "let it go man" <burns my jean jacket with my cinderella, whitesnake, ratt, ect logos from the 80's. 10 years after my visits to 20,000 leagues under the sea of my youth>>

One thing that really made me smile was the tribute to the old ride that they give at the end of the new one. I thought that was really great in Disney fashion! I don't want to give a spoiler, but listen to the reasons they need to get out of there and surface at the of end the ride. Anyone who had attachments to the old sub ride will leave feeling like they weren't forgotten with this new ride. That alone is really cool actually! Thank you for making me sit down and think about that aspect actually! really.

yeah, the target for guests carried is... 920? per hour... and 15 miuntes at 2 nmph, underwater through a tiny window, I'm not going to put myself through 3 hours to be put in a tiny underwater deathtrap.* I'm going to have trouble with subs, long after the lines are gone...

*subs are not proven to be death traps, unless you're claustrophobic

I totally agree. We saw it during cast previews too, and even with a five minute wait time we were saying, "meh." Firstly, I hadn't been on the subs since 1984 when it was dead during the Summer Olympics. At that time I probably hadn't ridden subs since I'd been there as a kid with my family. Didn't feel like I'd missed anything in '84, and I didn't feel like I'd be missing anything now. Granted some of the stuff was indeed cute, although I didn't see the serpent and mermaid (guess it depended on which side of the cabin you were sitting on?). However, every Pixar film has someone's voice who gets on my last nerve, and in this case it was Albert Brooks, so hearing him scream, "Nemo! NEMO!!!" was annoying. If I don't go on the subs for another 23 years, I won't care. And no, it's not worth more than a five minute wait in line.

Fingers crossed that Toy Story Mania doesn't have Tom Hanks/Woody in annoying mode.

nope, it doesn't matter which side of the sub you're sittting on...they have
them on both sides, but they are so cleverly hidden (the mermaids more than the serpents) that if you're not specifically looking for them you won't see them at all :scuba: ...it also depends on how fast the sub is moving (sometimes they do creep along at a much slower pace... ]
