A friend's daughter, now a high school junior, is interested in the music business, especially being a singer-songwriter. I would like to get her together with someone with some experience in the music business, or at least in performance, for a chat the week starting 28 June. WDW is easiest, but anywhere in metro Orlando would be fine.
She's a great kid, pulling a 4.0 but hating high school. Her mother's an actor, so she knows about audition and rejection. She is not interested in AI with their limited repertoire et al -- she doesn't want stardom, she wants to work.
If you work in this field, or know someone who does, and are interested in helping an aspiring performer get started in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it if you'd contact me by PM to set up a meeting with her.

Re: Music Business Help
Tell her to take some business and accounting courses so she understands processes and can read a financial statement. Otherwise she'll get screwed out of some large whipout. Examples? Carlos Santana, Billy Joel, Ted Nugent, the list goes on and on. All three had made millions and were semi-retired expecting to clip coupons for the rest of their lives. All had business managers that either robbed them blind or made extremely bad investments.
Have her buy and read this book. This Business Of Music
Some people say the movie business is run by the mob. Not true. They're all too busy pillaging the music industry.

Re: Music Business Help
Good advice. She already has her sights set on a college that offers a degree in Entertainment Business Administration. Like I said, sharp kid!hobie16 wrote:Tell her to take some business and accounting courses so she understands processes and can read a financial statement. Tell her to carry demo CDs. You never know when an opportunity will arise.
