Tonight, I was at DCA in the holding pen area for the new Silly Symphony Swings attraction. The ride ended for the current riders, everyone is getting off and then I see this boy crying hysterically towards a CM, I quickly gathered that this boy had dropped something into Paradise bay. (I later found out that it was his shoe) Now, I'm not sure if it fell while he was riding, or if he had put his shoes in one of the storage baskets and when the ride was over, it fell in, and I don't know of he lost his shoe because he was doing something stupid, or if it was just an accident, but his mother was PISSED. She smacked him in the head and called him an idiot (more than once) and said "We're going back to the hotel!"

After I rode, I looked down to the lower deck, the family was there and a CM retrieved the shoe with a hand-held grabber, and even after getting it back his mother was still pissed, and his younger daughter (possibly following the mother's influence) also called him an idiot.

It all happened so fast, but really, his mother should not have reacted the way she did! In retrospect, I feel that she should have been a little more understanding, especially in public.

she is just prepping the next generation of SG's,

she is making sure she firmly inplants in her kids mind that going on vacation is a time of trama and verbal abuse for something you may not have had control over.

that way when something goes wrong, you can call someone else an idiot.

bet that kid remembers the "great" vacation for years to come.

SUCH a good idea. We were actually talking about having a special "Moon Launch" fountain in World of Color. We could pick one Guest each evening and invite them to spend the night on the moon. Then sit them on one of the blow-pop fountains and 3..2..1..STUPID GUEST BLASTOFF!!!

I thought the goal is to wear your shoes at all times. Maybe duct tape can be applied to the shoes to the legs.

Yes, go ahead and dip mom in for being a royal pain in the rear. Drop her from the Sun Wheel, that would make a nice splash.

From what I understand, shoes don't always fit so snugly on the feet of young kids. So, it may not have entirely been the boy's fault that one of his shoes came off during the ride. In any case, the reaction of the adults with the boy was uncalled for.

Again, I should stress that I am only reporting what I saw, and that I do not know the whole story, or what caused the shoe to fall into the water, but regardless, I don't think that his mother should have reacted the way she did.

I also wonder if the boy had done something to annoy his young sister, because she also seemed a bit weepy.

Oh well...
