My parents had their card skimmed at Red Lobster last year. I think it goes on more than we hear about but because "it's DISNEY" it makes the news.

It seems like an every day occurrence. Card skimming is just the latest scam. It wasn't that long ago that phone calling card numbers were the big thing to rip off. One of my email addresses averages five Nigerian-type scam emails a day.

I come from the airline industry and I can tell you taht it does happen, not in the US, for it is EASILY trackable to who has seen the information, however in other countries around the world, it happens in airlines all the time. Not to mention in these other countries you can not pay with cash....it almost seems like they want your identity lol (actually they do not accept cash because of drug trafficers)darph nader wrote:How come it never an airline or resturaunt? She worked at the front desk of a DVC resort. No bag check or security lines. I'll bet once connected it was probably left in place and buried behind the computer. Most likely no one knew what it was and ignored it figuring IT installed it for some project and they would be told about in due time.

On the other side of credit card theft comes the ones who purchase these numbers online and try to use them. What they do is replace the information on the magnetic stripe from their own cards with the new info. Anytime I get a large purchase I hold onto the card AND id then cross check the last 4 numbers on the card with the reciept. If they don't match feign a computer glitch and get security. I have caught several criminals this way.

Ah ha!! That explains why Ace Hardware in Lahaina always has the clerk take the card and compare to what's on the screen.CujoSR wrote:On the other side of credit card theft comes the ones who purchase these numbers online and try to use them. Your company checks ID with credit cards? I know that it is against the credit card company TOS to force an ID check so I would think most criminals would just refuse to show ID.CujoSR wrote:On the other side of credit card theft comes the ones who purchase these numbers online and try to use them. Reread his post. He's comparing the physical card number with the number read from the mag strip into the POS system.kurtisnelson wrote:Your company checks ID with credit cards?
