turkeyham wrote:Hi Heidi, welcome to the family. I have seen the changes over the last 22 years. The are the good days and bad days. The grad nites are a challenge. I had a few of those. Now if I bug scheduling I might be able to snag one. Where did you work at DL? Disney is a good company to stick with. :)
I mentioned in my first post that although I was hired to work a summer at Disneyland, I was unable to accept the position. Since summers were dedicated to me trying to earn enough money to pay for the next semester at school, I found myself having to move back home with the folks during the summer so that I could save more by not having to pay rent. I was really disappointed that I was not able to take advantage of that opportunity.

Your responses are exactly what I expected. I know what it feels like to work with the public and I know there are very frustrating days for you CMs. Disney is such a magical place though, and I imagine that your coworkers make the frustrating days more livable. There are so many people who visit Disney every day who are touched by your efforts and smiles. I'm glad to hear that for the most part, the good outweigh the bad.

When we go on our lunches it is calmer. On my days off, most of the time I try to stay away from the park. I ignore the calls from scheduling.

For today, I was temped to use a few poles behind Village Haus. I wanted to play human hang man with a few SG. I still can't find hot dogs and frozen bananas. I know ice cream can not survive at 170 degrees. Then, I know we did sell hot dogs on the old Fantasyland hot foods cart. They went bad after a few hours. I remember the pretzels were really gross as well.

Today security was saying that the SG were worst then the grads this year.

I was in studio attractions for 3 years. It was mostly fun, but once you start figuring out how many days of your life you've spent driving around the movie ride, you start to wonder if there's something better out there. I still know of people working in the same place 15 years later, and I feel really bad they haven't found something better.

It's hot, the costumes can be uncomfortable, you have to deal with entitled people, you're on your feet all day, it's hard to get holidays off, it's mostly minimum wage work, etc. On the other hand, it's fun to learn a new attraction, the benefits are pretty good, and there are some fun people out there.

These days at work, if you want a holiday off...you have to take it as a vacation day in foods.

Why? I don't. Is this ODV only?

I know it has been both ODV and QSR. It has been like that for 5 years.

My wife says she wants to drive a boat at Disney when she retires. She has been driving boats all her life.

If she is serious, I would try to get on as a musician or stage crew perhaps.

Welcome to the boards!

I'll be honest with you. As a CM, you tend to lose your magic every once in a while, but believe you me, it'll always come back to bite you in the behind! :p: Sort of reminding you that you're in the happiest place on earth. And when I'm having a horrible day, I think about the children because seriously, it's about them and not the parents. To some of these children, it's their whole world and you have to remember that you're doing this for them. I love the way disney is very detailed as well in their attractions and in everything. Sometimes you gotta take a day off (even if you're there 24/7,) and enjoy the parks slowly.

I'd love to retire to Florida and work for The Mouse, but DH says we're moving to OR. We'll see!

Anyway, my dream job would be to land the Fairy Godmother position (I come by the padding naturally...) but given that I'm a hula girl, I might have to think about working at the Poly instead. Maybe I could give lei making lessons or something.
