Okay, I'm back from the three-day weekend, rested and refresh. Let me just take a look at this thread and...

Alright, first off, I have never, ever heard of ether Fantasyland being called "Sleeping Beauty's" or "Cinderella's". As far as I can tell, they have always simply been called "Fantasyland". Thus, even though the two characters may have a castle at each respective Fanatsyland, it doesn't mean that we have to have anything else featuring them.

WDW isn't the only place where they make changes. The stately Swiss Family Robinson's Treehouse at DL got a make-over and is now Tarzan's Treehouse. While, on the one hand, I'm all for tradition, I also understand that a lot of the folks going to the park have never even hear of the Swiss Family Robinson, let alone seen the movie, so updating it to a more recent offering isn't a terrible idea. I was less happy about the removal of the Country Bear Jamboree, which is a more timeless attraction. I still would like to see them, at some point, find a place to re-instate the show. However, as I have not seen the attraction that replaced it first-hand, I reserve judgment as to whether the change justified the removal of the old attraction.

The Disney theme parks, like with most entertainment, is a balancing act. On one side, you have the traditional, the things that folks like and have come to expect. On the other side, you have the need of change, to keep things fresh and to spice things up a bit. I don't see that the changes made so far, in particular the changing of the name of the carousel, as being a sign that we will be seeing a row of bulldozers mowing down the Disney parks and replacing everything with focus-group-approved shows and rides.

Apparently it was along with a lot of other bad ideas they put in place at DL. One thinks back to the retarded idea of Rocket Rods.

Apparantly in all of your infinite research on Walt, you failed to notice that he dropped the name Mickey Mouse Park and called it Disneyland. You also fail to notice that the park that Walt personally supervised did not have Mickey all over the place.

Replacing the PeopleMovers with a new ride wasn't a bad idea in itself. The problem came from the bad mechanical design of the Rocket Rods that had them breaking down too often.

Actually, my comment was that if anyone should claim star-treatment at Disney theme parks, it is Mickey, rather than any of the princesses, whether they have castles named after them or not. Not being able to go more than once in several years, I can not vouch for him being more scarce these days. Even so, I haven't heard anything yet to make me think they are going to plow under every old attraction and show. I am not wearing rose-colored glasses, but I am beginning to suspect some folks are wearing jade-colored ones.

...I have been trying ignore most of this thread's discussion, but I have to say that I would love it very much if Honda would stop insulting Disneyland. Because that in effect, insults Walt.

Walt loved Disneyland, he poured his heart and soul into building the place, and as it has now been established, (and cited) Walt initially did not want to built a Magic Kingdom park in Florida because he felt there should only be one Disneyland, but he had to agree to it as it was the only way that he could start work on the Florida property. What he was really interested in was his idea for EPCOT.

I thought it was neat that while they removed a classic attraction to make way for a new one to be loved by the kids, they still left the classic available at another park. If you like Mr. Toad, you can visit that attraction at DLR and if you like the Country Bear Jamboree, you can see it at the MK. It seems like they tried to keep people happy while making changes to the parks.

Agreed. I grew up going to WDW, am a WDW CM but I have a very special place in my heart for Disneyland. True, some may consider it "cramped", but I think of it more as an "intimate" setting. There's a certain charm about the original that I just can't quite put to words. I'd give my pinky finger for a monte cristo sandwich at the Blue Bayou followed by a stroll through New Orleans Square right about now. Hmm....this may give me inspiration for a 2011 vacation :)

Something else to point out is that whenever an old attraction replaced by a new one, the Imagineers will almost always include a tribute to the previous attraction. Sometimes its something hidden, other times its something overt.


Now getting back to the main topic; this time we are not talking about an attraction getting removed, the carrosel at Magic Kingdom has simply gotten a name change, and it is really not a big deal. Its still the same carrousel.
