The Gazette (Montreal, Que.):
Comedian new mayor of Iceland's capital
The cheeky new Best Party headed by a comedian won Reykjavik city polls, results showed Sunday, highlighting discontent with politicians blamed for wrecking Iceland's economy.
The party -- whose leader campaigned on free towels in all city swimming pools, a polar bear for the zoo and cleaning up politics -- took 34.7 percent of Saturday's vote in a shock defeat for traditional political parties.
If this is the case, perhaps I should run to be Mayor of Orlando. I'll propose a Platform with the sole policy of annexing Tampa or something of the sort. If this is any example, I've got a chance, right?

Hey,if the state of California can elect an Austrian the govenor,I say "Go for it". They should have made the polar bear mayor.

Glendalais, you can have the Orlando Mayor position (or if you want to be really ambitious, how about "Orange County Mayor"? (Why does a county have a mayor? Shouldn't it be a County Administrator or something?))
Personally, I want to be the Mayor of Bay Lake.

Yeah, that's nuts. I don't understand it either. Mayors run cities and towns, not counties.
Personally, I want to be the Mayor of Bay Lake.

Up here, we have county freeholders...I think there are five - I hate to say it, but they really don't make any important decisions and are just there for window dressing.
