When my sister had her birthday at the DLH, she asked for a bunch of pens. The pens still work after a month. :)

There are certain attractions that will request that you turn off anything that produces external lighting (cameras, phones, glowing merch, etc.) Not only is it distracting to other guests, but it also might ruin the magic behind the attraction. I would consult with each Cast Member to see how they can accomidate children who are afraid of the dark.

(Does anyone else find it amusing that our cheap "buy-em-by-the-truck" Bic pens that have "Walt Disney Resorts" imprinted on them work far better than the pens we sell to our guests?)

I would guess that the Bic pens are going to get a lot more use then the ones sold to guest. Would be a safe bet to say that most the novelty pens guest buy are used int he parks, taken home and tossed in a shoe box or junk drawer and never seen again. :)

I do know not to take flash photos on Pirates; I'd hate it if someone did that while we were on the ride. It's SUPPOSED to be dark, people! It annoys me when people have no consideration for other guests - I won't be able to see the damn ride if I have spots in front of my eyes because someone decided to take a flash photo (voice of experience). If you need pix of POTC that badly, go buy a postcard, LOL.

To clarify my earlier post about sharpies- it is not so much whether a thicker pen might be easier to hold (it could be) or if a character would prefer them (they might) but if it is best for our guest. I think an autograph in a book in pen just looks better than one with sharpie. But if you are autographing a photograph, clothing, hats, bags, sharpies may be best, and the character will be happy to use it. Keep in mind too that sharpies are much more likely to leave marks on gloves and paws (oft times little ones don't quite know how to hand the pen to someone with limited visibility). Whatever it is, make sure it is ready to be used (pen clicked, cap off, etc.) when you hand it off.

More to the point, it is about making the best guest experience. If you want to use a sharpie, bring it on! I'll even loan one to you!

Now on a different tack, what is an important consideration is the length of the pen. Our characters often have difficulties with the stubby sharpies, and even the koosh topped pens sold in the park stores. So, sharpie or ink pen, full size length is the best. Hope you have as much fun with our character friends as we have visiting with you!
