It's always nice to have options.

I've got the age and deceit. When are the youth going to start showing exuberance over work?

I'm in a similar situation financially. I've only played the above card once, but it was very nice to be able to.

"Sorry, I can't give you the time off."

"Let me put it this way, boss -- I'll not be here for the next two weeks. We can handle this as time off, we can handle this as a personal leave of absence, or we can handle this as a termination. Why don't you sleep on it, make your decision, then have the appropriate paperwork ready for me to sign tomorrow."

"You'd quit over time off?"

"I earn more from my investments than you and your supervisor combined. It's really not going to hurt me all that much."

The next day I had my time off!

I'm getting the impression many of your work there not because you have to but because you want to. Its a sideline and not how you make your living. I know there are a lot of people that do that. Heck, I would.

youth now adays isnt interested in working, many are too lazy to put in an honest days work and thats unfortunate. They have a sense of entitelement and that comes from things being to easy and welfare. To many have this I'm gonna be a rockstar/NBA/NFL/Rapstar additude and think the world is just going to kiss their asses. The best worker I have right now came from Mexico, hes my age, snuck into the country 20 years ago, citizen now, owns two houses here and one back home, damn hard working guy and doesnt bitch.

My graveyard guy, hes an old doper thats sober now and has to face life as an adult. I'm sure he was too stoned to remember school, about as smart as a dirtclod, also one of those people that will lie to you when the truth wouldnt get him in trouble, its like a reflex for some. Hes a warm body, every time he does something I need to "coach" him on he would say he will look for another job, last time he did it I told him I'm not going to beg him to stay and asked if he was giving notice. He dropped it then, his ol lady tossed him out last time he was out of work.

You think you have it bad? I work hard and am in this generation that thinks they should have the world served to them on a gold plate. I think the schools teach this sense of entitlement, starting in Kindergarten when they teach you that no one should be able to hurt your feelings.

My wife and I are working hard now to get money working for us in investments so that we can continue to work at Disney forever. I am certainly here by choice, I came across the company just to work here. So while I am not so brazen as Zazu or willing to make it seem I don't need this job the way I do, I still am here by choice. I could be making a lot more money doing the same thing I do now back in Oregon, or working for Lynx (gag!).

It's the "It's not YOUR fault" and the "All about me" attitude this country has now. No accountability anymore...

It certainly isn't just in the US that you see that attitude. Here in the 'frozen north', it's just as bad. And, making matters worse, I'm like Big Wallaby. I'm young, and from a generation that seems more comfortable with 'gimme gimme gimme' than anything else, and I just don't seem to fit in. It's the age of easy. You don't have the money for something? No problem, that's what a credit card is for! You don't want to do the work you're being paid for at your job? No problem, everyone's short on bodies now, you'll just get another job until you get fired from that one.

I work in a bank, and I see people coming in all the time that have gotten themselves into trouble that way. I see young men in their early 20's, who work on the oil rigs (not easy work, physically, I admit), but who throw their 6 figure incomes away on drinking, drugs, smokes, fast cars (which they crash more often than note), etc.

It's sad, really.

Your right, one of our mechanics has a daughter thats got drug problems and every time I talk to him its someone elses fault shes on drugs and not getting the help she needs. It pisses me off, I told him she made the choice to take the drugs, its her fault. You cant be more right on this.

Shows you how well DARE did. I mean, the statistics certainly didn't change for the better on that one.

Of course, my view of drugs has always been that we should let Darwin's laws play out. And I only believe in them to a point. If you want to take drugs that will kill you over time or cause you to do something to kill yourself, that's fine with me. If you want to ride your Harley without a helmet you should be allowed to. However, I don't believe you have any right to come crying to me, the taxpayer, when you get a boo-boo that alters your life forever or happens to kill you.

It's like the guy they were talking about on the radio yesterday, a guy in Kansas City who molested and killed a girl, but they think he shouldn't be executed because he's too mentally challenged to know what he did was wrong. Yet, as one host put it, we put down dogs that kill children, and often on their first offense, no matter what the circumstances. Yet we take a human, who is usually smarter than the dog, and say he's too stupid to receive his just punishment. That's just not fair to the dog.

And it's not the first time; I grew up watching this happen over and over. The fact that it took Timothy McVeigh so long to get pumped with the cocktail irks me to no end.

But I digress. The tirade continues in my mind, but I'll not post it here for now.
