A warning to WDW CMs
Re: A warning to WDW CMs
A year or 2 ago we had good CP crew. One of my friends who went through costodial was from UNLV. He was majoring in business. He was really nice. Chad, you need to come back! We found out he was in his senior year and this was his last course he wanted to take.

It may not rest squarely on the trainers' heads. I had a situation with a CP years ago that I refused to sign off on at the end of their training time - which had already been extended beyond the norm as I was their second trainer. When I told the training manager that I wouldn't sign the papers there was discussion. I ended up called on the carpet by the area manager. The end result was out of my hands, all I could do was register my opinions.IndyandMarion wrote:My reply: See above post.
It was just a resort wide situation this time around. Quite honestly, I put half the blame on trainers but thats just from observation.
(CP CM did eventually get transferred into a different area.)

You were lucky. The two few times I had to fail a trainee, management put them to work anyway. One of them lasted a month before his deafness brought him down (couldn't hear the locomotive whistle from halfway down the platform!). The other didn't even make a full rotation before she injured herself doing exactly what I saw her do in training. <sigh>Kifaru wrote:It may not rest squarely on the trainers' heads. I especially love getting called on the carpet for exercising my better judgment, too:
"What makes you think you know enough to say this person won't do well in the job?"
"Well, 35 years experience at the job, 20 years experience training adults, 7 years experience as a Disney trainer on this attraction, plus the fact that you gave me this job!"
Shut him up a little bit. Not entirely, but enough to keep the conversation off my record card. Didn't keep him from clearing the incompetent to work though.

Re: A warning to WDW CMs
Training leaves a lot to be desired anymore. They really cutback on Merchandise training and new CMs just aren't being taught the things they should be. The details on too many shops are being taught in too few days. The trainers do what they can but they have to follow the training schedule and there just isn't the time anymore.
Why the heck are attractions trainers being ignored and management passing CMs who failed? Attractions have a lot of safety roles and to pass someone who doesn't know the roles well enough could result in guest or cast injury.

Around here, however, we don’t look backwards for very long.

I wish that they would get a little tougher in training and they would allow trainers to fail people who clearly don't get it. I also wish that they would screen them better. Like Johanna said some that clearly wanted and could do a good job didn't get the job. Instead people who don't care for the job, don't want to be there and are clearly not interested in doing their job, got the job. It's so frustrating!
Re: A warning to WDW CMs
I have seen the training in ODV. They have 2 trainers and about 8 trainees.
5 in a group. They go around the vending carts and tell them what they are selling and what the prices are. They also show them what to do and what not to do. On ice cream and stadium vending carts there are ice cream novelty bars. Dry ice is the issue. Do not pick up with your hands. Please use the safety gloves. Of course, allot of the newbies ignore that one and the managers get a call that the CM is at CFA being treated for dry ice burns.
Through out the training the trainers will take notes on those new CM's. After they get back to the office, they are seriously asked "If you think you can handle this job, stay here. If you don't like the job, walk out and leave." We do have the 2 week turn around out at vending. You will work hard and if you slack off and show no interest in your job, you are gone.

Nope just another SG or I hope not a SG. Wish I could do the CP, but darn I just had to grow old. ;)

Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster!
Just wanted to say that I will, hopefully, be one less stupid CP you'll have to deal with this coming season! I listen during training sessions, I love Disney, and I'm in a position where I should know what I'm doing! :D:

What role will you be doing?

I will be your guide for this magical journey into the movies. It's the perfect job for me, because I love movies! Is everybody ready? Great, because it's showtime. Ready when you are, CB!
