Just thought you'd like an update on me....
Re: Just thought you'd like an update on me....
I did some calling of some of the places I applied to last month, and nobody's hiring. Then I called a vet's office, and they say there's an opening coming up, so I can come in and fillout an application and they can talk to me right there. Ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease...... I'm really bummed about having to apply all over and keep getting turned down. If job-hunting was a paid profession I'd be a millionaire by now. Got two more days' worth of phone calls, another place is going to call me back--but didn't say when.
What's really upsetting me is calling shelters because I can't stay with my friends after the end of April. They have somebody else coming in. Worst is that Tripod and I would have to be split up. Well, I'll be doing my blog later on, and the only good thing to come out of checking shelters is it gave me a new subject.

A friend of mine from Cats in Need has offered to take Tripod until I get settled. My pastor just called, saying he found a way to hire me to clean the church; I'll be taking home $100 a week, and my first paycheck will come May 15th. I start the first. That's something, at least. I've been calling and applying to other places, and checking the progress of my applications. The Census Bureau says it's a waiting game, but they are starting to call people back.
Other places either aren't hiring, have just hired people and won't be hiring more for the time being, don't have anything right now but to call back in a couple of weeks, or are still processing the applications.
My pastor is still trying to find me a place to live; I have to be out of here by Friday night. The shelters are full. Yes, I did do my blog on that subject. I was calling one shelter, and happened to mention that it would be nice if they made room for pets, like a kennel, and the lady I talked to said that was a great idea. My friend who's taking Tripod lives in Long Beach, and she's squeezing to get Tripod in; it's a tiny apartment, she has her own cat plus she's fostering four kittens. Tripod would have to be seperated from the other cats. I just hope the stress doesn't make her go downhill. She pretty much has stopped jumping up on the bed--I bet she has arthritis up the wazoo, 19 is the equivelent to 90 in human years--and is very fussy about her water and food. I hope I have her for at least a couple more years.
I really, really hate moving.....

This is Wonderful! I've been worried abt Dear Tripod. CIN, Santa Ana PetsMart on 17th, had not cats when I was in there today. Was going to ask if they could help you out. Not one cat nor volunteer around.felinefan wrote:A friend of mine from Cats in Need has offered to take Tripod until I get settled.

I used to volunteer at the Buena Park PetSmart.
I've been crying off and on all day over the thought of being apart from Tripod. Since all the shelters for people are full, or they don't have room for singles, or they have long waiting lists, my hosts are saying they'll take me to the Salvation Army shelter tomorrow. It's a lottery to get a bed--what if I don't? What if some jerk gets into my stuff, especially my blood pressure medication? That medication I'm taking is part of a blood pressure study I'm in, and anyone who touches it is gonna get a Hank Hill done to them.
I've never been one to live out of a suitcase. I prefer a stable environment.
I hate the thought of being away from my stuff as much as I hate being away from Tripod. You have to understand that for the last few years of my life, I've been forced to give up stuff I still wanted to keep, things that meant something to me, and especially books I cherish. But of course my loser family forced me to get rid of a lot of my stuff, saying I had too much. Really? You should see how much they have--even more than everything I ever owned in my life! Lying hypocrites!
Maybe with my first paycheck from the church I can rent a storage space to keep my stuff in, because I can't keep my stuff at the church much longer, due to ongoing remodeling. I think I can fit everything into the smallest one they have available at most places.
My life totally sucks. And it's not even my fault.

I'm at the Santa Ana Salvation Army Hospitality House until Fri. a.m. Right now I'm on the computers at Orange central library. The lib. in civic center won't let me on for more than 15 minutes because I don't have a perm. addy. Funny how Orange, where I lived with mom a few years ago, had no problem renewing my library card. Actually, I kind of liked Orange, but the rentals aren't very pet-friendly, though one place near where we used to live dropped their no-pets policy. I hope I don't run out of day passes too soon, at least last time I got 20 of them. I'm down to my last $9 of the money my old church sent me. Still have food stamp card. Wish I could keep up with all the posts here, but they only give you an hour, then if there's an open computer you can get a half hour, which I'm on now. But my friend who's keeping Tripod saying she's doing great, and is eating very well, and taking her pills with no problem. She's a good girl.

Santa Ana library must have a strict policy due to their Special Collections.
One need to provide 2 pieces of mail & a utility bill to get a free card. If a patron wants to go into The Santa Ana History Room a picture ID is needed! Sometimes one even needs a research intro letter.

Feline Fan, PLEASE make sure you take legal steps against your sister who made off with both of your parents' inheritances to you-I know it is just survival right now, but maybe legal aid can help. Even if it is small, anything would be helpful.

Re: Just thought you'd like an update on me....
THANK YOU FOR REPLYING!!!! I thought this thread wasn't showing up for some reason. I checked out of the Salvation Army shelter Fri. a.m.; no extensions possible as they were filling up. Now I'm at Isaiah House. I'm doing this at my friend Donna's place, she's the one taking care of Tripod. I'm doing the janitorial work for my church a couple days a week during the week. Donna is out with her mom and sister for lunch. She picked me up at the church--I came down on the buses--and she'll drive me back. I've got so much on my mind right now, I don't know when I could get started on anything. Santa Ana Library said I had to have a stable address--P.O. Box wouldn't do. When I said I was homeless, they looked at me like I'd just grown another head. I took the bus up to the Orange library, and when I tried using my card there, it came up expired. But when I explained my situation, they were very nice and renewed it right away. Actually, I thought Orange was a nice place to live; mom and I were there for ten months because the crappy place we were living in made mom's lungs worse. Plus we had to hide Tripod. That's the only problem with Orange--not many pet-friendly rentals there. I used to enjoy sitting in the train depot just to watch the trains go by.
But I'll try to do something about the legal stuff.
