Syndrome wrote:It ain't just kids/parents. That reminded me of our Howl-O-Scream incident at Busch last year. DH and I were watching the magic show, which you watch while eating (picnic style tables). We were sitting at the end of a table and there was still some space at our tables. I got up to use the restroom and a group of drunk adults came over and plopped down in the unused space...problem is, one of them also took my seat. Mr. Syndrome tried to explain it was taken and didn't get too far, but fortunately I reappeared and asserted my rights. Then they thought it was cute to purposely block hubby's view. Finally he just stood up, since we were on the end so he wouldn't block anyone else's view. For some reason that made two of the guys jump up and get in his face trying to start a fight. I got Security and the drunks started ranting at the guy (a Tampa cop) and their whole party got kicked out. You'd think that was the end of it, right? Hell no! One of the guys came back a few minutes later and got in hubby's face again! Cop swooped down like a hawk on him and the rest of the party (they were lurking nearby) and told him they were getting kicked out of the park entirely. I can only shudder at the idea that they might have reproduced and have devil spawn running around somewhere in the world.
wow, makes me always happy BGT has Tampa PD on hand to Trespass, (or in this case escort out without refund if it was first offense) people at those events when they get too out of control.

I think the only time I had a problem with guests / families would have been at universal studios last sat during the Mardi Gras parade.

I got a prime spot (and sat at it till the parade was about to start) near Fear Factor. The location was sort of empty till the parade started anyway. As the parade starts a few families get behind me and me, being polite, let some of the kids move in to an area that was empty and I was not using. soon though tons of kids appear out of nowhere start pushing and grabbing around me and shoving in front of me. It got bad enough I decided to leave the area and I passed the parents of the children who were being just as bad for the beads.

I did get to enjoy the parade by moving to the exit gate area where an elderly couple got a bunch of beads (I wasn't really going after many.) I did get a coin as well plenty of nice shots of the performers. I guess since becoming a local I forgot how spring break and Mardi Gras beads can cause people to get pushy. .. or is it just the beads that cause it.

It's definitely the cheap plastic crap that causes that kind of behavior. I loved in New Orleans for years, and when I was young, we'd go to the parades, catch a ton, have a good time, and go home. Later, it started getting a little scary ... If cups or doubloons were thrown, we'd mostly just back off and let the masses push and shove. In the end, we stopped going completely. It was no longer fun. It was downright scary. People .. kids, teens, and even adults .. would become vicious and belligerent over the junk that was being tossed. I'm sure the alcohol was a factor, but there's nothing worth the way these people would act.

I no longer see the attraction, but will take my kids to Universal's MG in the interest of letting them see a parade again. But, I'll only even do that because they badger me.

I hate to say it, but Uni is light years behind Busch in riding herd on SGs and drunks, especially during special events. I won't even go into the several incidents last year at Halloween Horror Nights were I was physically threatened multiple times for asking drunks to quit smoking next to me in line. They handle it by pretty much not handling it, so of course the jerks continue their behavior because there are no consequences. Maybe that's why people do things like hanging fishhooks in the Uni houses while I've never heard of that kind of thing at Busch. When the cop kicked out the a-holes, he said, "I don't know where you people are from, but we don't put up with that shit in Tampa." Amen, officer!

Universal's is not always bad... I went to all by 3 (assuming i make next saturdays...) but it depends also where you stand. Last sat I was in 2 different locations (starting gate and ending gate) and encountering many kind guests. But across near the fear factor ropes I saw what happened to me 2 weeks ago happening again. It's partly the spring break and who the act is.. (last sat was flowrida SP?) It really gets bad during the end of the events but the earlier events are not that bad.

What amazing is thats the kind of stuff I don't see when I go, but I know it happens. The year before last I was complimentary express passes for the night so I did not see it, and last year was complimentary VIP tour so I never saw it. The big problem is if the wrong TM sees it they wont do anything about it but if their superior sees it it's fixed. Orlando PD issues a lot of stuff during special events... but smoking in line is not a offense to get Orlando PD for  (now if it was also public drunkenness them they would be called ASAP) My best suggestion would be go to HHN on an off peak night, like a Thursday and then remember it can still happen, Though smoking in line i not stupid, it's just Dumb!

Actually, drunkness isn't, nor is making a threat of bodily injury. We see it a lot because we go pretty much every non-peak night, and I am very sensitive to cigarette smoke. Last year was the worst ever for some reason. Some very obviously drunk smokers told me they would kick my ass and kill me when I asked them to put it out. I went to the cop at the entrance to the house because I was not at all comfortable staying in line near them (Mr. Syndrome stayed to make sure they didn't take off...no need to worry since they obviously knew that Uni only hires gelded cops to work the event). They handled it by holding US back in the line to let the drunk threat-makers go in and get a big amount of space between us. I said, "What if they are waiting for us when we get out?" Reply: "Oh, well just let us know if that happens." Yeah, makes a hell of alot of sense. Rest assured that Guest Relations was my very next stop, but they only know how to do band-aid solutions that don't address the much bigger problem.

If you got what department the cops were from, you could've contacted their commander and explained that if the drunks had caused bodily harm to you, the cops on duty would've been liable because they were lax in their duty to protect law abiding people like you. And if that happened, you'd be having a lawyer serving them with a summons. Yeah, I hate the sue everyone for anything tendency, but sometimes that's the only way to light a fire under some people. Apparently that department's motto is "To protect and serve, when we feel like it."

Interesting thought. I'm not sure if the cops are on or off duty when working HHN, but I did make it pretty clear to Uni that they were opening themselves to a hell of a lot of liability if I had walked out of that house and those ass-hats had been waiting and dared to pull anything (I didn't point out that it wouldn't have happened quite that way because I keep mace tucked in my pocket...they don't inspect you very closely or send you through the metal detectors if you come in early for Stay and Scream). I can be quite persausive when I am pissed off so I think they understood the error of their ways after our little conversation.

There's a bit of humor to the story too. I was just about literally spitting bullets after that encounter so I stormed my way to Guest Relations and totally forgot where I was. I'm pretty much scare-proof at an event like HHN because I know it's all fake; I enjoy the hell out of it, but I don't get frightened (well, except by the threatening drunks). So I'm marching down the street, intent on imparting a piece of my mind to whatever poor devil gets stuck with me, when one of the scareactors snuck up with a clapboard (I was in the Hacktion scare zone), smacked that thing right next to my ear, and scared the beejeezus out of me! I have to give him props; that is the first time I have ever literally been scared at the event. Granted, it was lucky timing on his part but he near about made me jump out of my skin.

I hope you let this incident "inspire" one of your articles for publication! Might as well exploit that public forum for the good of all !

Perfect revenge is when you write about some jerk being a jerk, and get paid for it.
