Does this LOOK LIKE THE LADIES ROOM ?
Re: Does this LOOK LIKE THE LADIES ROOM ?
Well, if you were to ask Gloria Steinem, maybe she would say yes, a woman is just as capable of running audio-video and animation boards like everyone else.... :D:
But as to it being a public bathroom for either gender, no.
Lady probably couldn't think of anything else to say and was trying to save face.

At the rate technology is advancing, that will be how all ladies' rooms look by the year 3000.delsdad wrote:But this left me wondering if maybe I am jumping to conclusions. So I thought I would throw it out there and ask, "does this look like a ladies room to you ?"

In fact in several of our theatres the electricians are female, including our showpiece opera house.felinefan wrote:Well, if you were to ask Gloria Steinem, maybe she would say yes, a woman is just as capable of running audio-video and animation boards like everyone else.... :D:

I get paid to do the stuff that I cut classes to do in high school.Lasolimu wrote:I am so jealous of you people who get to play with this stuff. Unfortunately, I didn't keep going after high school so I don't get to. :(
The big difference is really in the budget I get to work with.
Simple dmx is by no means dead. We just use lots of it now. DMX 2 and ACN are just around the corner, but nobody wants to spend that much money on retrofitting existing gear inventories.Big Wallaby wrote:That is a beautiful control room. The last time I worked in that environment, we were stuck with a single universe... using ethernet for the control had not been thought up yet, we were kinda at the end of the simple DMX dynasty.
Funny thing is, without actually having studied, I can figure out the difference between a universe and a galaxy. Some things never die.
Perhaps someday I will get back into it again.
........
This is a thread about lighting. PLEASE do not get off topic like I just did.
Calling it a galaxy is the only way I can think of to denote the seperate "world" of 256 dmx universes. I should check and see if that is the official term for it. After all, some of my lights have sun and planet gears ! It seems that a couple of the major manufacturers, located in Texas, drew upon the former NASA crowd when filling vacancies in engineering and tech writing departments. The end result was a few space terms making their way into our language of lighting. If they had been from the computer world, I am sure they would be domains and subnets !
Only the followspots! And I just had them dialed back last week, because going to 11 dramatically shortens the life of the $2000 bulb. And it makes the spot booth an uncomfortably warm place to be ! The last thing I want is those guys starting to strip downBRWombat wrote:But do they go to eleven?
(I know that's for amps, not light boards.)

To quote Tristan, who was the lead guitar, "That show is the most fun you can have with your pants on !"EpcotFan wrote:Hey, I actually saw "We Will Rock You" in Toronto! I was there on a business trip a couple of summers ago and took my nephew who came down from Kingston, where he was attending university.
Cool show! Great lighting and sound!
We all hope it will one day be resurrected for a tour and Broadway run. Working directly with Ben Elton was a ton of fun. He entertains all ideas from the crew, no matter how crazy,as I learned the hard way. That's how the laser shots ended up in Another One Bites The Dust. You shoot your mouth off at the bar one night, and the next day you are programming the laser to Zap the dancers.

Can I just say that while I have no idea what half of (okay all of) the terms mean that I find this stuff fascinating?
I have to make it a point to read up on this subject a lot more before I die...
I read 256 Universes and immediately thought, "I don't even think Doctor Who has visited that many!" :D:
Very, very cool work you do, Delsdad, but then you're a cool guy so it's no surprise.

And the kitty mommy bombs at making a joke! Good thing I have no plans to quit my day job and go into comedy--oh, wait, that's right, I don't have a day job. 'Kay, 'bye!delsdad wrote:In fact in several of our theatres the electricians are female, including our showpiece opera house.

Not a bomb at all ! Its just kind of fun to see peoples reaction when they learn that there are a fair number of female electricians, and they usually rise to the top. There seems to be less ego and more ability with the women. Many touring shows are staffed almost 50/50 in the lighting end. No so much with the carpentry I'm afraid. Seems the ladies are too smart to be carpenters !felinefan wrote:And the kitty mommy bombs at making a joke! It's because we ladies tend to have strong self-preservation instincts, so most of us would rather not handle power tools capable of taking off a limb in a matter of seconds. No problem using hand tools, but then those have you in control most of the time.

Power tools?!?!

Don't be fooled by appearances. In Hawaii, some of the most powerful people look like bums and stuntmen.
