OK...I answered no more than a second or two, but I know that is going to change over the next couple of years. I have three: DD10, DS8.5, and DS2 (today! :) ). I had a devil of the time keeping the 2 year old under control yesterday at the zoo....he wanted to check everything out without his mother's help, thank-you-very-much. I hold his hand ANYTIME he is not in his stroller and get pretty peeved with him (to the point where I hold him under my arm) if he refuses to comply. Now, the older two - I can see letting them wander around the Emporium or something by themselves (together!) as long as I am in the same general area as them. Yesterday at the zoo, they watched a movie about migrating birds while I waited outside the theater for them (only one way out and I spoke to a staff member who went in with them). Their getting a little more freedom these days, but I always wonder about the "what if" and don't let them go more than a few feet from me generally.

Lovely. Can't imagine how many times The Most Magical Place on Earth is the setting for social services / police intervention. No matter how hard Disney tries to make it a great place for families, there will always be SGs who expose their true stupidity at the parks. (I'm recalling the story a couple of years ago about the kid who was left in a stroller in the Florida sun for an hour while the parents rode Pirates.)

Perfectly-timed story for me to forward to my sister! She's chaperoning my niece's high school band trip to WDW, they hit the road for Florida tomorrow evening.

Of course, we're talking kids who are 15+ here... (Though my sister did ask me if there was any way to prevent the students from *leaving* the park without a chaperone.... Had to tell her no)

Hi everyone...this is my first post.... :)

Just ask my husband, I'm a bit of a stickler for knowing where my kids are. All the time. I let my teen wander, but he has a cell, and he also texts me. He KNOWS how mom gets, and wouldn't risk the wrath. That being said, our first family trip in '08....my then 3 year old decided to pull a disappearing act at Crystal Palace. We were frantic. He came calming bouncing back to our table followed by a manager...he decided to follow Eeyore into the back. He can take off at a moment's notice if not tied down, but we would never forget one of our kids somewhere. And I do a head count with 5 kids...believe me.

Suddenly, I am reminded of the character lecture in Traditions, how you would never refer to any character as "being in back with their head off, smoking". A child would hear that (insert favorite character) is in back, decapitated and flaming.
