Don't know how you do it Guest Jockey. I HATE it when guests view their elderly, disabled family member as a FastPass. Must qualify as some sort of elder abuse.
Was in City Hall recently to compliment a CM, could see the person we spoke with relax visibly when she saw that we weren't there to gripe.

Re: Policing of GAC Cards
If you want to be technical about it, the standard speeding law requires that you travel at a speed which is reasonable and prudent under the circumstances. Where the speed limit comes into play is that, under normal circumstances, that is the speed which has been determined to be reasonable; any speed above that is presumed to be unreasonable. It's just a presumption, though, and you can present evidence that your higher speed was reasonable and prudent to rebut the presumption.Zazu wrote:I've had to give up driving the speed limit too. My transcontinental trip last August showed me some variety in speed limit obedience, but none of the Interstates I used had the average anywhere near the posted limit.
After trying to obey the law out of principle lo these many years, I have now decided that since the primary purpose of the speed limit is to increase safety, and as it's sure as hell unsafe to try to drive at that speed, I am actually doing more for my safety and that of others by driving at the average speed of those around me.
I'm not proud of it, but I'd rather be ashamed and unharmed.

That's how it can work in theory at least. As a practical matter, if you're in the position to need to put on that evidence, it means that you've been ticketed, and at least one person, the ticketing officer, believes you were going too fast. You're going to have a tough time convincing any judge that your faster-than-the-limit speed was okay. But until you get a ticket, you can at least assuage your conscience that you are not breaking the law if you honestly believe your speed to be reasonable under the circumstances.

From a traffic engineering standpoint the optimum speed limit is the speed which 85% of the vehicles travel at.

Wow, that is crazy! I hate when people try to abuse the systemGuestJockey wrote:I had a group of Guests in City Hall a few days ago that came in 4 times and tried 4 different CMs trying to get EXTRA GAC cards. It seems that they had mom-in-a-wheelchair as part of a group of 18 and they didn't like that "Mom has to keep going on the ride like 3 times because she can only take 5 people with her at a time! She's disabled; she can't handle going on every ride 3 times!"
Me: Well, the pass is for her and the rest of the party can wait in the standard queues.
Him: But that would take forever!
Me: Actually, that would be faster than waiting through the GAC line 3 times in a row for each ride.
Him: Those lines are too long; we'll only get on like 4 rides all day.
Me: Well, sir, it's a busy day and the other 50,000 in the park have to wait in those lines too. The pass is intended to give you ACCESS to the ride if you CAN'T wait in the regular line. It's NOT intended to get you on more rides than the other people in the park.
Him: That's discrimination!
Me: It's not, and this conversation is over. I am telling everyone working in this building that you've been in here 4 times and if you try to come back, we will take the one GAC that you've got away for misuse.
Him: You can't do that.
Me: If you read the back, you'll see that it says it's the property of the Disneyland Resort, and you've initialed that you read and understood that. Have a nice day, sir.

Some of the roads I use to commute to work ended up having their speed limits RAISED as a result of that theory. It's much nicer now! (and logical, as it was a busy four lane road with few residences and no businesses... and doing 35 was unrealistic, except for the police)Cheshire Figment wrote:From a traffic engineering standpoint the optimum speed limit is the speed which 85% of the vehicles travel at.

Re: Policing of GAC Cards
to answer the intial question...
My mother has a terminal illness that keeps her from having any stamina. She still loves coming to the park so we always get her a GAC.
To an average person..my mother looks fine..but is unable to physically stand for long periods of time and because she is on immunosupressive meds she shouldnt be packed in with lots of folks in close contact for her health. There are lots of people just like this...people with things like lupis, transplant patients, even some recovering cancer pts. That being said...ALOT of people abuse the GACs. But know thats not everyone.
Sorry...needed to clear that up for my first post.
PS...I used to be really anal about the 6 person limit...I know I was reported to GS a few times by big parties..but I was just following the rules!
