Someone tie up Churchy so I can post this...

Post by Big Wallaby » Sat Jul 07, 2007 4:32 am

I worked Magic Kingdom tonight, as did Cranbiz. We both got put on the Employee Shuttle (Cranbiz's favorite activity, in a like-hell-it's-his-favorite sort of way). 3:15 came around, and we took our buses to FIW. When we put our buses down, we went to where you pick up a clean bus to take to TTC for the morning crew.

Before I go further, I need to draw out what FIW looks like in your mind, so that you can follow along. FIW is made up of two basic parking areas: One for buses that haven't been through the fuel/wash process yet (this being where we drop the bus off at the end of the night), and another parking lot for those that are clean and ready to go. Buses are moved through the process, then brought around by the wash crew to the "Ready Line" in the clean lot. The ready line, depending on how quickly buses are getting cleaned versus how quickly they are benig brought in by the drivers, who after dropping off their bus walk to the ready line and pick up a bus to take to TTC. Occasionally, we will use the back lot of the lot with the ready lines. Here is a Google Earth view of FIW with notations made by yours truly.

There was only one bus in the ready line, and no coordinators to tell us what to do, so he and I hopped onto it, and were preparing to leave. We had made a judgment call that we didn't know when the next clean bus would be brought out, and we both had a clock-out time coming up quickly. So we got on the bus. When there is only one bus available and multiple drivers going to the same place, we often pile onto the same bus. When there are enough buses waiting for us, everyone takes one. That's been the standard operating procedure for at least the three months that I've been doing it. So as Bob was closing the door, the coordinator drove over, rolled down her window, looked incredulously at Bob, and with a tone of voice that dripped contempt for him and the fact he was breathing, asked, "Why do you have passengers?" Bob didn't hear, so he asked her to 10-9, and she asked again, even more annoyedly now. Before Bob said anything, I replied with having not seen any other buses. She replied that there were two rows of them. The two rows, I later found out, were in a place they have never been before: In the area we sometimes use when the dirty line fills up and they can't even get one more bus in there. Having never had the ready line be there before, both Bob and I assumed those buses in the distance were probably dirty. Making matters worse, the bus Bob and I were on was in the normal area, along with the bus I wound up taking, which came a minute later.

So to recap, because this coordinator decided to do things differently from the norm, then wasn't there when drivers came to do what they normally do (take buses from the ready line), when we did what we were trained, we were doing the wrong thing. Would have been nice of her to tell us nicely instead of contemptuously.

As I was exiting Bob's bus, I think I might have said something under my breath to the effect of "Yeah, yeah, we're just a bunch of idiots, here..."

In the future, I am not supposed to fall back on my training and make any judgment calls at FIW. Instead, I will assume I am to be considered a stupid ass and will not do anything without the FIW coordinator first commanding it.

When I am in a job where I have to make a thousand judgment calls every hour that will affect peoples' lives forever, when I get berated for making one call that is not the one the coordinator likes because they have changed the rules mid-game, I find that downright offensive, and I wonder how that person was even ever hired at Disney. All I can say is that with her personality, it's a good thing she doesn't work with the guests.

Having already had a rough day today (late due to traffic, even though I left a half hour earlier than I normally do; leg cramp after driving an old RTS that the gear selector digs into my leg mid-calf; quite a few not-nice guests and finally ending the day on the ES), getting yelled at by a coordinator because they were not around to set the guidelines just sorta set me off this evening.

For more info, Cranbiz'll be coming around soon.

The main reason that one bids FIW is to get away from guests and to get the .60 shift differential. Politeness and tact is not a strong point there.

What Wallaby said is all true. With MK closing late there was an overabundance of dirty buses and 1 clean bus in the proper area. While the staff was working to get more ready it was not apparent to the three drivers present that there were clean buses in the overflow area. There was no FIW personel present at the time and at 3:20am after working ES, I'm not walking all over hell and back to find a clean bus. Both Big Wallaby and myself had 3:45 clock times, there was not much more available time to look for a bus. In order to clock out, we must be at TTC Westgate of TTC Bus Info. We can't clock out at FIW.

If Miss Pleasent had been doing her job properly, she would have been where she belonged to direct us to a bus. In the past, I have been yelled at for not taking the "proper bus" out of the ready line so I'm reluctant to take a bus without being told the proper info. I'm not a mindreader and for bus driver pay, I'm definately not a mindreader.

We will entertain questions but not right now. It's time for bed.

Because a coordinator managed to yell at both of us at the same time. Since you like both of us (and the feeling is mutual), I figured you'd be rather upset that we were simultaneously ridiculed, yelled at, bitched at... whatever you want to call it.
Plus, I've always wanted to say that anyway. I'm not really sure why :D:
Well, it's time to go back to work already. I didn't get my full ten hours off, didn't sleep well. Boy, am I tired. Hopefully it'll pass. Thank goodness for those little 5-Hour Energy thingies. Best part is, I'll be using them until the end of this week, since every day I have ten hours off between shifts, then come back earlier and earlier.

First, what does "FIW" stand for? That's one not on the acronym thread.

Doesn't matter if they're guests or CMs, some people are just plain stupid. It sounds like it was stupid to park the clean busses where they did and even stupider to get mad at the drivers when they didn't know those busses were clean. They were parked in the dirty overflow so naturally you all assumed they were dirty. It's not your fault busses got parked in a totally different area from the norm.

Also, Cranbiz, what kind of bus is that in your avatar? I can't find the thread where you mention it. I ask because it looks a lot like the kind of bus that the local transit system uses. Thankfully I don't rely on said system as they couldn't hold a schedule in a bucket I understand. The only system Escambia County Area Transit (ECAT) runs good are UWF's trolley system (essentially busses with trolley bodies) and that's only because it is a small contained route that pretty much operates separately from the county busses.

You guys do a much better job at running busses. I love Disney Transportation. Thanks for your hard work to get us around!

AHH! I was *THIS* close to getting your bus then! I was off at 3:15 but got a female driver to westclock.

I am not much of a fan of the status coordinator idea. I think that if you want to be a coordinator in the area you should atleast have experience working in regular rotation for a few months prior to being in control of the area. I'm assuming that this coordinator came from another area and not transportation? Otherwise they would have known better that you guys are trained one way and unless otherwise notified, are expected to follow the same procedures from the days before and your training. I've had managers and coordinators pull the same stuff on me before and I totally get what your saying... it is totally offensive and really puts a foul mood between the cast and the coordinators.

Hopefully this was a one time slipup for her and she realized what an ass she was to you and appoligizes today :D: If not, make a few mental notes of similar occurances and take it up with your favorite manager.

Very interesting and I understand that you want to tie me up. If it had been Zazu I would have been on the train tracks tied up. See you at PO later.

I wonder if all riders of busses wear uniforms, lol. Can you make an anonymous complaint about her? Mutt and Jeff team of trouble makers probably are too much for her to handle. That or she wanted to spank you for being naughty and not taking a clean bus.

mech, better you than me! ;) Remember - this site only picks on those they like & can give back 2xs as much. :) In this case I doubt you minded one bit. Cran & Big were treated with disrespect by someone who has let power go to her head. Hope this coordinator has a Magical Day!! Hang in there Cran & Big, we're here for you both - and there's always Karma.

At my age the notion of a man wanting to tie me up is a complement. Except Zazu who wants to lay me down on the tracks as the train comes roaring by. I am getting used to the site and figure in five more years may be just one of the guys.

Shouldn't this be in SCMT

NEVER!!!

Do you have any idea how hard it is to wipe all the blood and gore off a hot locomotive boiler? No, if we get that angry at someone, we just hand them a Cast Referral Card and give them directions to Casting.
