I live in South Jersey, so maybe that Friday (depends if I'm off or not), or Saturday, I might be able to head into the city. :D:

Cheesesteaks: do NOT get one at any of the tourist traps: Pat's or Geno's. :ewww: :puke2:  :thumbdn:

Good cheesesteak: Tony Luke's on Oregon Ave.

Awesome. Friday is the day of the actual contest, and we'll be performing early -- probably around 10:30 a.m. We'll sing at Saturday's quartet finals only if we win on Friday. It'll be around 6:00 p.m. if we do. Both are ticketed events held at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. If we do win Friday and sing Saturday, though, we'll probably have a rehearsal sometime Saturday afternoon, free and open to the public

Awesome, thanks! This is just the kind of inside information I like!

I'm with leftcoaster. Pat's? Geno's? Neither one.
Just ask the workers at your hotel where you can walk to for a good cheesesteak.
I get mine at my local pizzaria, but that's a liitle past walking distance for you.

Friday during the day is easily doable. Saturday night would probably be a no. Sorry. :(

BRWombat, if you have time while in Philly treat yourself to The Mummers Museum. Such great fun, beautiful costumes, & cool old music. Very interesting history too. I'd never heard of The Mummers or their Jan. 1 parade before we went to Philly. Had so much fun at the Mummers Museum. Absolutely fell down laughing a few times. :o: Those guys rock! Dancing with an umbrella - not me but I had a blast!! Agree with Zazu abt City Tavern for a fine meal Can't get better. 1100 South 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA. 19147-5497

I've actually heard of the Mummers, believe it or not, and I'd probably really enjoy the museum. I suspect I won't have time for it, though -- my short few days there are most filled with rehearsals and performances, so my sightseeing time is pretty limited. (I may be lucky to be able just to drive past Independence Hall! :o :) I'll let me family know about it, though, since they'll have more touring time.

A couple other food places:

Moriarty's Restaurant
1116 Walnut Street, Philadelphia, PA‎
(3 blocks South of your hotel)

Fado Irish Pub
1500 Locust Street, Philadelphia, PA‎
(their wings bathed in Guiness is to die for)
(about 8 blocks South and West)

Right across the street from you is the Hard Rock Cafe.

:)
