Re: ...will not be down for breakfast (threads)
You see, that's the funny thing about life and people. We all see things differently. I understand that the remarks that were made were in some cases, over the top, but as humans you, I and everyone else uses humor to dissipate stress. Sometimes our judgment is lacking and sometimes it's not.
You feel that "down for breakfast" is not disrespectful. I say, it all depends on your perspective. If it is a person you are close to then it is disrespectful. To you it is a means of "lightly" broaching a subject that is difficult.
As I stated, I don't have a problem with it...what I have a problem with is how we can be so inconsistent with expression and making allowances for the expression of others. What is good for one...should be good for the other.
To put an even finer point on it...Supposing the wording on the thread that morning had been...Austin will not be down for breakfast... Hits to close to home to even sound a little humorous doesn't it!?

Interesting point of view. I'm a CM who tends to go "ballistic", so no comment.Goofyernmost wrote:Then the monorail thing happened. You guys, and I'm not saying you're wrong here, start to go ballistic every time you perceived someone as not showing the proper respect and concern over YOUR loss.

If they do get the 'memorial' thread up and running I've got a few folks to add. Nobody you would know, but someone near and dear to my heart.

I'll be the first one to say that if I were to pass, I would consider it an honor to have a breakfast thread. And if my death is ironic in anyway feel free to make fun of it. As long as the threads still remain respectful of the person what's the harm in seeing the lighter side of death?

I have had to deal with a number of co-worker deaths over the years. It never gets eaiser.
One thing I have noticed is that often, people use humor to deal with the overbearing grief that we all feel when losing someone you have worked with and know. It is not disrespectful, it is just a human response when you want to wail in grief, but have to continue with your duties and life.
If you really think about it, the "..will not be down for breakfast.." is one of the more easy ways to break the news of someones passing...
not disrespectful at all.

Regarding those people who make fun of the monorail crash, I hope monorail CMs throw them off the platform. Anyone who does this doesn't deserve to ride. Those people are sick. Or at least give them a piece of your mind--something they can't do because they don't have minds.

Speaking of passing, has anyone shared with their loved ones what they want to happen when they pass?CujoSR wrote:I were to pass, I would consider it an honor to have a breakfast thread.
For example, I've requested a DJ, a slideshow montage and cremation. I've asked that everyone remember the happy times, and hold those in their hearts to keep me with them. Request for no crying please.
Also, please don't put me in an urn on a mantle.

I've specified that my ashes be mixed into five gallons of floor wax. The wax is to be used on a dance room floor and a party thrown. That way all my friends can have a last dance on me.
