I never get any respect for what I do. 98% of the people watch are idiots I know, so they wouldn't understand the point of it all. But, I die and keep coming back for you people every eight minutes.
*Sigh*
There's no love for the villains.

Re: Cast Member Appreciation
As a frequent guest of WDW I have to say that 99.9% of the cast is fabulous, I have sent numerous e-mails naming cast who have gone above and beyond any expection. I especially remember a chef at O'Hana's during a large family trip in Sept 09, I will never forget him and have made O'Hana's a must do every trip since.
However, with that said, over the last year I have encountered a few cast who seem to be uninterested in their jobs (to be nice), including cast who stood by offering no assistance to my young child after a fall left a gash on her leg. Forcing us to carry the screaming, bleeding kid to a first aid station only to find out the cm there wasn't trained in airborn pathogens (that is a serious management problem in my opinion) so we were forced to dress the wound.
I will admit I was pretty cranky after that incident and probably wasn't as pleasant as I could have been to anyone I came in contact with the remainder of the day. I think like anything else, one bad apple can definately spoil the barrel, and for many people who may only travel to Disney once in a lifetime a bad experience with a cast member can leave a lasting impression.
In terms of my incident, the manager of the location was awesome, once brought to his attention he made sure all paperwork was filed correctly and offered to call for medical assistance. Unfortunately my daughter developed a fever the following day and the medical staff believed the wound may be infected since it wasn't dressed properly, so we were forced to leave early.
I have encountered cast who have such a passion for their work it is like light shining, every trip I bring cm appreciation cards for those who add that Disney magic to our trip. Those are the people who make Disney what it is. Those are the people that keep me going back as often as I can. But, as I said above, not everyone is as passionate about their jobs as all of you clearly are. I do think that is sad, and I think it is even more sad because it sets a poor tone leaving the great cast feeling unappreciated. I am guilty of that myself as I admitted above. Human nature I suppose.
Having lurked on these threads for a long time I have often found myself laughing at the SG's, but after my recent trips (3 this year, each one encountered serious issues) I feel like I have to explain that some guests do not mean to not show appreciation. At least I know I don't. I would imagine many guests would prefer to always have the 99.9% of incredible cast to deal with. I know I would, when we were there last week one cm made my daughter cry and begged me to take her home. That ruined my vacation! Then the next day another cast member treated my daughter like a hero when she picked up change someone had dropped at the concession stand. I sent e-mails about both cast members. I hope the one who brought so much joy to my daughter gets a commendation int heir personnel file, he earned it!
Sorry if my post is rambling!

Welcome to SGT, Lovethemouse. Let's hope your trips in the future result in 100% positive encounters with CMs, although like you say, human nature being what it is, don't be disappointed if that's not always the case. However, as long as there are SGs or even SCMs, there will always be a place for you and others to come and vent.

Re: Cast Member Appreciation
My husband and I celebrated our 40th anniversary with a week at WDW. The cast members made our trip a joy. We were invited on a normally concierge level guest (at AKL) sunrise safari, received fastpasses, and were wished a happy anniversary so many times. We've been to WDW now and then since the 1980's and have always loved it, but this was super special and a lifelong memory. Thank you to all the CMs who work so hard to give us visitors a good time. ;)
