Stupid Eye tricks are back

Post by Saint March » Sat Dec 19, 2009 9:16 pm

The Bru Fairy has had another set back. She had what is called a retinal tear. She had a sudden burst of many floaters and a large blob in the eye. The tear had to be sealed with a laser, and the floaters will supposedly dissipate, but the blob could be a permanent feature (called a Weiss ring we think) that will obscure her vision. some things i've read say you just just have to live with it, some say it will fade and literally sink to the bottom of the eye, some say it can be removed. i just don't know, we'll find out on Wednesday when we return to see the Retina Doctor. The good news is was got THE Retina Doctor. The best guy they have. The dude that runs the place.

apparently there is a good chance of this episode repeating itself in her left eye in the next year or two.... :(

So she wanted you all to know she is forbidden from any strenuous activity on the eyes, including reading, for at LEAST a week. If you have any messages, i will pass them on.... If you have any questions, i will try to answer.

~March

It goes without saying that we're all rooting for her. Give her our best.

March,

You get some rest, you'll need it for her. Tell her I send my love as well, just got off a horrible setback as well.

To our friends Bru and Notatourist, and others who may be suffering from maladies, please know that we are thinking of you and keeping fingers crossed and sending pixie dust to you in the hopes that your condition improves quickly.

SWMBO had just such a retinal tear, floating blob and all. The procedure to correct it took a few minutes of adjustment and a few seconds of laser. The last of the blob was gone in two weeks.

True, she's still nearsighted as a Pal Mickey wearing SPF 64 sunblock on his nose, but that was true before the procedure as well.

Please give her our best, too.

Believe me when i say i am hoping for a smiliar result. Its so disheartening for her to have gone through everything she did to get her site back, only for so much of it to be snatched away in an instant.

Regarding her doctor, bru says "I was supposed to see the chief resident and wound up seeing the chief of the retina department. The nurse said I must have a guardian angels and I immediately thought of monorail wings."

Bru sends her love and hugs to you all.
