[quote="leftcoaster"]So when do you expect snow in central Florida? ]
In actuallity, it last snowed in FL on November 22nd 2006.
I know, I was there. The wife and I came out of Publix after getting some fixin's for turkey day and it was snowing! I left New England to get away from that $hit. Exactly 1 week from when I moved there.

It doesn't stick but it snows a little up here in NW Florida most every winter. Only one time in my life can I remember the snow not melting off as soon as it hit the ground. I was a little kid and our aunt took my brother and me out to an old school north of town where snow was building up good and we had a small snowball fight.Cranbiz wrote:In actuallity, it last snowed in FL on November 22nd 2006.

Re: Things that make your day?
Actually I did mean the STOL strip, on the right, just past the toll plaza to the TTC/MK.Big Wallaby wrote:I drive near snow every day, working Animal Kingdom. Of course, the snow isn't very cold, but it's still snow, right?
VTOL... uh, not quite sure what that is, as it's not on Churchy's list :D: . Only VTOL I know is Vertical Takeoff and Landing. If that's what you're thinking of, then no, it's not. Perhaps for one of the Novas, however, it would be possible. I've heard many stories of them being spun when it rains. Of course, if the drivers would just SLOW DOWN a bit when it rains... but I digress.
Many of them remind me of a certain bird we all know... :roadrunne
I could spin anything at Stolport, though, given the proper conditions, and nothing parked on the strip. Actually, I'd like to conduct some speed tests there. Doubt I'd get permission...
Maybe the bus driver training should include pulling a 180 in a bus without flipping it, like the double-decker bus drivers have to do in London.

STOL Port
There have been instances of aircraft actually landing there. However, since it is private property Disney would not allow then to take off. They had to arrange for the wings to be removed and the aircraft trucked out. This is a very expensive proposition, as not only do they need to have a licensed mechanic do the work, but they also have to rent the crane to get the plane on the truck. When they get to a regular airport, they then have to get everything off the truck and then there is lots of work to get the plane back together.

Me too! Me Too! I wanna be on that bus! Oh, I just thought of something, my clown phobia might preclude me from being anywhere near Darph!ktulu wrote:I'd be right there with the cooler! Dude, that'd be so sweet to see one of those busses doing donuts. That could be a new attraction, just put a Cars theme to it and the SG's will flock to it like a moth to a bug light (hey, another Pixar themed attraction for the SG's!)

I believe he is referring to the airstrip at WDW.
http://www.airfields-freeman.com/FL/Air ... htm#disney
This discusses the main WDW airport that was constructed because some construction matrials were too large to be transported by roads.
http://www.airfields-freeman.com/FL/Air ... andoSW.htm
This discusses and has images of the Epcot Center Ultralight Flightpark which now has the Pop Century Legendary Years Resort built on top of it. At Pop Century on the northwest corner is a couple of T shaped buildings that are where that airport was located.
Location
On the north is 7 Sea Dr. which becomes Timberlane Dr.
On the west and running parallel to the strip is the monorail and World Drive.
There is a parking lot there and a pair of lanes leading to runway.
On the south is Vista Drive.
Head west from Fort Wilderness toward World Drive. The road will be going northwest at some point. It then goes west again and at the turn is a small road on the left heading southwest. About 600 feet past the turn is a small concrete road, not blacktop, that heads north.
Better yet use google maps, lol.
STOL Port = Short TakeOff and Landing. It was used during MK construction.
Until about 2000 it was on the Jacksonville Sectional Aeronautical Chart and was referred to on the map as (PVT) Lake Buena Vista.
It can still be used for landing helicopters and small planes in an emergency. Remenber that landing on Mickey's kingdom is not allowed. It has been used for busses to practice on and for stacking busses during major events like Grad Night.
Try this site, it was fun for me.

Very cool post Churchy, thanks for the fun and VERY interesting links! Loved reading the airstrip article! :D:
