Pin Trading?
Re: Pin Trading?
Look here to see what the "Hidden Mickey" pins are. They all contain a Mickey head somewhere in the art. And before this year, they were called cast lanyards.

Ok, I'm not really a CM, just a CM's wife...

Re: Pin Trading?
If I wear pin trading paraphernalia, it's usually a teal lanyard that only kids 12 and under can trade from, often accompanied by a blue hip lanyard to try and aid Guests who can't seem to distinguish the blueish-green from the blue. If I happen upon a Cast Lanyard Pin, either through trade or through lanyard refresh, it goes on the kids lanyard. I saw the disappointed look on a kid's face when an adult pushed her way through and traded the pin he was after off of my blue lanyard once back when I wore the standard lanyard. Once was enough for me to decide that only kids get to trade with me for special pins. Doesn't stop adults from telling their kid "Tell her you want that pin!" though. :mad:Herlehy wrote:Look here to see what the "Hidden Mickey" pins are. Re: Pin Trading?
As I have said before on another thread, I was collecting pins before it became this mass-market monster. I still collect, but rarely trade. When I do trade, it is with CM's only. It is the only way to trade fairly. I do not feel comfortable trading with those "super-collectors". I can't afford to buy extras of the pins most collectors will take in trades. I usually go to the Character Warehouse and buy the cheapest Pooh and Tinker Bell (Characters I don't collect-though most people do.) pins. (Cheap in the sense of price-not quality)
The most important thing in collecting is to have fun and enjoy it. On my last visit, I got an old Rodger Rabbit pin and a Figment pin. Who cares if they were just "common" pins?
I have also vowed if I see any child being picked on by a collector on how their pins are no good or fakes, that child will get to pick anything off my lanyard.

Be careful about that because alot of the regular kid traders now are becoming pin sharks. Trust me..I know from experience.Alyssa3467 wrote:If I happen upon a Cast Lanyard Pin, either through trade or through lanyard refresh, it goes on the kids lanyard. When I hear that, I usually ignore the adults and talk to the kid. I tell them "Do you see a pin that you like?" 9 times out of ten, the kid picks a totally different pin besides the cast lanyard pin :D: The one time that it doesn't work is because the parent is an f-ing shark and is training the kid to be just like themDoesn't stop adults from telling their kid "Tell her you want that pin!" though.

Re: Pin Trading?
In my experience so far, most of the time, the Cast Lanyard Pins stay on my lanyard for a good chunk of the shift... :p: They usually go when an adult with a child notices and coerces the child into getting the pin.

Re: Pin Trading?
As with most SG subjects usually it is one person or party of people that causes the problem Usually it is a small minority of a type of people that causes the problems. You can talk about pin traders, African Americans, Hindus, Atheists, Baptists, fat people, blind people, dog lovers, Stitch fanatics, collectors of whatever, VMK gamers, foreign language guests who only speak that language, disabled guests, DVC members, APs, CMs, managers, out of state drivers, and so many more labels.
It seems we all whined about the same people which makes it look like hundreds of people are doing the same thing but it is those outstanding people who stand out. Most pin traders were friendly helpful and honest. I have had stuff returned to me, people pick up pins on the floor that they could have kept, helped me out, and worked with me and others to grow in pin trading. It was for me 6 hard core arse holes who stole from Disney, connived a CM out of a $100+ pin which they gave that CM a $2 pin, cheated the system, insulted other traders, and cause me and others a lot of pain and mental anguish. I was not the only one they targeted. There are a few who are the lanyard yanker, slobbering on piins, and boob boinkers but most are not.
I miss pin trading a lol.
