I was selling tickets, things were going great. A middle-age woman comes to my window and asks to buy 3 points. With tax, her grand total was $2.63. She handed me 3 $1 bills, I gave her $.37 change and her ticket, and the world was at peace.
The only reason I even remembered her for more than 57 seconds was because of her ackward track suit she was wearing.
About 20 minutes later, the guest returns, I was helping another guest, so she goes to my coworker at the next window and loudly exclaims that I failed to giver her her change.
At this time, my current guest is finished and leaves, so she comes to the window to explain.
"I gave you $3 and I never got my change back!!! I dont know where it could have gone!! Did you give it to the kids!! I didn't get my change!!" I explain to her that I believe I did give her the change and that if she was concerned I would have my manager come and count my drawer. She actually wanted me to get counted down for $.37.
I call my manager, who says that he will come and tell her that if I'm over at the end of the night, we will send her a check in the mail for $.37 ( )
He comes down and explains this to her, she takes it surprisingly well and leaves.
As I suspected I would, I balanced to the penny. Thank GOODNESS I didn't short the poor lady her 37 cents.
