Suggestions urgently needed - Stupid Scheduling trick!

Post by CBeilby » Sat May 19, 2007 9:53 pm

I just got off the phone with Purpura less than half an hour ago, as she's on her way home. She was in tears, as Scheduling has given her shifts the week of the 27th through June 2nd. The week that she's supposed to be going to Virginia/North Carolina for her brother's wedding! She requested vacation time for this all the way back in February and, since she's CR, was declined. She put in a request for an unpaid leave for the time of the wedding, accompanied by both the 'save the date' announcement and the actual Wedding invitation. This was done months ago.

I'm already going to have her go in on her day off on Monday (I can't go with her, since I have Jury Duty) to talk to the Scheduler, a Scheduling Manager, and her Managers. I've even suggested that she see if there's anything the Union can do. However, knowing Disney management, I don't honestly know if this is going to happen. :(

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

If she has flight/hotel reservations, have her take those with her. "Some" companys don't like paying for canceled trips,(like Disney shivs a git).
Years ago a co-worker had flight/cruise tickets bought for his pre-approved vacation, the boss told him had to work 3 days before departure. He told the boss "You owe me $2,200.00 for my non-refundable trip". He and his wife enjoyed their cruise. :D:

Union may help but the line might be a fine line. If Purpura is in UFCW 23 (foods is diff. than stores - so this may not help) tell her to call Rocky ASAP. I really like him as he seems to get to the park & meet CMs often. Jamie never has time for CMs. If you need Rocky's # or Email PM me. I may even have his cell as I had a meeting with him abt a month ago. He was really cool, but I had no problem he had to solve. He just heard I was @ Emporium & wanted to ask me a question. His hrs. are Mon. - Fri. 8 - 5. This always works too... have her get a Dr's note = MLOA. There are ways but we have to be so darn creative. :( GOOD LUCK!!

Scheduling does it yet again! I say fuck Disney scheduling. If you don't have too many points, call out SICK the first days then Call Sick Continuation. It's 3 points for every 4(or was it 5) consecutive days of continued absense. So the most points you would get is 6 points.

They continue to screw me over when I put in my pre approved vacations way in advance and I have at least some senority (well 4 years isn't much compared to most people there but at least it's more than the latest revolving door CMs). I take a vacation with my family every year and we plan and pay for it at the beginning of the spring! Most times they will either deny it outright or grant all but 1 or 2 days of it. WTF! So I end up having to call out.

As a matter of fact, I know some cast members this past year with over 10 years senority who got denied vacation.

That's the problem with Disney. They say they will work with people's schedules. Yet when it comes down to it, they don't give a crap. I know, I know, they have a business to run. But, senority doesn't mean shit anymore. Unless you are a minor or going to school (and sometimes going to school doesn't mean crap), forget about getting any time off when you need it or getting a decent schedule. You get screwed over big time. And it has been getting worse and worse every year.

IMO, if Disney would be more family friendly for the cast members like they say they are for the guests, there wouldn't be as much turnover as there is. I mean shit, if I want one freaking day off that I need and it's on a friday or weekend, give me my one day off and make one of the lower senority cast members work that day. But, like I said, senority doesn't mean shit to scheduling, only numbers do.

I've learned to plan strategically around the scheduling BS. I sprout wings
and halo for a few months to drop points and when I get a pattern of two
regular days off going, book my flights and hotel a few weeks in advance.

Call in sick at the stroke of midnite for three consecutive days, have my
regular two days off call in sick day four after that. BINGO! Six days off
in a row. If I really want to walk the tightrope, stop off at one of those
quack redicare clinics and get a Dr's. note for a few more days if need be.
They usually have no problem writing one of those for you, though if
it's a clinic in Honolulu, it may not fly too well. :p:

If you ever stop and ask yourself: "How do they dress themselves?"
Congratulations and welcome to my world.

Sad that we even need to openly discuss this.

Taking notes, shaking my head sadly.

My opinions are mine and mine only. If my opinions are the opinion of others who happen to share whatever my crazy views may be, then fine, but it's not because I represent them in having my opinions. Got it?

At least there sort of is a semi-clear vacation policy for new contract CR's now, it only took over a year for that to happen.

I'm waiting to find out if my attempt at such a thing happened or not, won't be long now...

Yes Big Wall it is too bad this issue comes up - especially when one is a reliable CM such as purpura! Yet, this is just another reason we ALL must be GRATEFUL to Polar & Cujo for presenting us with STG forum, & being the very COOLEST mods on the web! ;) Sharing sure helps the headaches!

It turns out that the reason she was on the schedule is that someone else (Foods Management? Someone in Team DumbAss) hadn't yet approved her leave. However, the approval came down yesterday, and she'll be heading out next week, provided the email sent out yesterday actually gets acted on.
